Exposing The ?Healthy Bean? Myth

There are two soy foods that have shown to be of benefit ? organically grown 
and properly fermented miso and tempeh. When eaten in small quantities, these 
can be of benefit to some people. Beyond these, any other form of processed 
Soy can be a hazard to your health and the health of your children, pets and 
farm animals.
Here are some Soy facts and links to empower you in making healthy dietary 
choices:

? Most modern soy foods are not fermented to neutralize toxins in soybeans, 
and are processed in a way that denatures proteins and increases levels of 
carcinogens.

? Average consumption of soy foods (mainly fermented) in Japan and China is 
10 grams (about 2 teaspoons) per day and consumed in small amounts as a 
condiment, and not as a replacement for animal foods. 

? Soybeans are deficient in sulfur-containing amino acids methionine and 
cystine and therefore not a complete protein. In addition, modern processing 
denatures fragile lysine. 

? Soy foods contain trypsin inhibitors that interfere with protein digestion. 
In test animals, diets high in trypsin inhibitors led to stunted growth and 
pancreatic disorders. Phytic acid in soy foods results in reduced 
bioavailabilty of iron and zinc which are required for the health and 
development of the 
brain and nervous system. Megadoses of phytoestrogens in soy formula have been 
implicated in the current trend toward increasingly premature sexual 
development in girls and delayed or retarded sexual development in boys. 

? Soy foods can cause deficiencies in calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and 
zinc. Use of soy protein isolate in-creased requirements for vitamins E, K, D 
and B12. Calcium from bone broths and vitamin D from seafood, lard and organ 
meats prevent osteoporosis in Asian countries ? not soy foods. 

? A British government report concluded that there is little evidence that 
soy foods protect against breast cancer or any other forms of cancer. In fact, 
soy foods may result in an increased risk of cancer. 

? In some people, consumption of soy foods will lower cholesterol, but there 
is no evidence that lowering cholesterol improves one?s risk of having heart 
disease. 

? Soy isoflavones are phyto-endocrine disrupters. At dietary levels, they can 
prevent ovulation and stimulate the growth of cancer cells. Eating as little 
as 30 grams (about 4 tablespoons) of soy per day can result in hypothyroidism 
with symptoms of lethargy, constipation, weight gain and fatigue. 

? Soy foods can stimulate the growth of estrogen-dependent tumors and cause 
thyroid problems. Low thyroid function is associated with difficulties in 
menopause.

Investigations by EIR have uncovered a planning apparatus operating outside the control of the White House whose
sole purpose is to reduce the world's population by 2 billion people through war, famine, disease and any other means
necessary. This apparatus, which includes various levels of the government is determining U.S. foreign policy. In
every political hotspot -- El Salvador, the so-called arc of crisis in the Persian Gulf, Latin America, Southeast Asia
and in Africa- the goal of U.S. foreign policy is population reduction. The targeting agency for the operation is the
National Security Council's Ad Hoc Group on Population Policy. Its policy-planning group is in the U.S. State
Department's Office of Population Affairs, established in 1975 by Henry Kissinger. This group drafted the Carter
administration's Global 2000 document, which calls for global population reduction, and the same apparatus is
conducting the civil war in El Salvador as a conscious depopulation project.

"There is a single theme behind all our work-we must reduce population levels," said Thomas Ferguson, the Latin
American case officer for the State Department's Office of Population Affairs (OPA). "Either they [governments] do
it our way, through nice clean methods or they will get the kind of mess that we have in El Salvador, or in Iran, or in
Beirut. Population is a political problem. Once population is out of control it requires authoritarian government, even
fascism, to reduce it "The professionals," said Ferguson, "aren't interested in lowering population for humanitarian
reasons. That sounds nice. We look at resources and environmental constraints. We look at our strategic needs, and
we say that this country must lower its population-or else we will have trouble. 

So steps are taken. El Salvador is an example where our failure to lower population by simple means has created the
basis for a national security crisis. The government of El Salvador failed to use our programs to lower their
population. Now they get a civil war because of it.... There will be dislocation and food shortages. They still have too
many people there." 

Civil wars are somewhat drawn-out ways to reduce population, the OPA official added. "The quickest way to reduce
population is through famine, like in Africa or through disease like the Black Death," all of which might occur in El
Salvador. Ferguson's OPA monitors populations in the Third World and maps strategies to reduce them. Its budget
for FY 1980 was $190 million; for FY 198l, it will be $220 million. The Global 2000 report calls for doubling that
figure. The sphere of Kissinger In 1975, OPA was brought under a reorganized State Department Bureau of Oceans,
International Environmental, and Scientific Affairs-- a body created by Henry Kissinger. 

The agency was assigned to carry out the directives of the NSC Ad Hoc Group. According to an NSC spokesman,
Kissinger initiated both groups after discussion with leaders of the Club of Rome during the 1974 population
conferences in Bucharest and Rome. The Club of Rome, controlled by Europe's black nobility, is the primary
promotion agency for the genocidal reduction of world population levels. The Ad Hoc Group was given "high
priority" by the Carter administration, through the intervention of National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski and
Secretaries of State Cyrus Vance and Edmund Muskie. 

According to OPA expert Ferguson, Kissinger initiated a full about-face on U.S. development policy toward the Third
World. "For a long time," Ferguson stated, "people here were timid" They listened to arguments from Third World
leaders that said that the best contraceptive was economic reform and development. So we pushed development
programs, and we helped create a population time bomb. "We are letting people breed like flies without allowing for
natural causes to keep population down. We raised the birth survival rates, extended life-spans by lowering death
rates, and did nothing about lowering birth rates. 

That policy is finished. We are saying with Global 2000 and in real policy that you must lower population rates.
Population reduction and control is now our primary policy objective- then you can have some
development."Accordingly, the Bureau of Oceans, International Environmental, and Scientific Affairs has
consistently blocked industrialization policies in the Third World, denying developing nations access to nuclear
energy technology--the policies that would enable countries to sustain a growing population. According to State
Department sources, and Ferguson himself, Alexander Haig is a "firm believer" in population control. 

"We will go into a country," said Ferguson, "and say, here is your goddamn development plan. Throw it out the
window. Start looking at the size of your population and figure out what must be done to reduce it."If you don't like
that, if you don't want to choose to do it through planning, then you'll have an El Salvador or an Iran, or worse, a
Cambodia."According to an NSC spokesman, the United States now shares the view of former World Bank President
Robert McNamara that the "population crisis" is a greater threat to U.S. national security interests than "nuclear
annihilation." "Every hot spot in the world corresponds to a population crisis point," said Ferguson who would
rename Brzezinski's arc of crisis doctrine the "arc of population crisis." 


This is corroborated by statements in the NSC Ad Hoc Group's April 1980 report. There is "an increased potential
for social unrest, economic and political instability, mass migration and possible international conflicts over control of
land and resources," says the NSC report. It then cites "demographic pressures" as key to understanding
"examples of recent warfare in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, El Salvador. Honduras, and Ethiopia, and the growing
potential forinstability in such places as Turkey, the Philippines, Central America, Iran, and Pakistan." Through
extraordinary efforts, the Ad Hoc Group and OPA estimate that they may be able to keep a billion people from being
born through contraceptive programs. 

But as the Ad Hoc Group's report states, the best efforts of the Shah of Iran to institute "clean programs" of birth
control failed to make a significant dent in the country's birth rate. The promise of jobs, through an ambitious
industrialization program, encouraged migration toward "overcrowded cities" like Teheran. Now under Ayatollah
Khomeini, the "clean programs" have been dismantled. The government may make progress because it has a
program "to induce up to half of Teheran's 6 million residents to relocate, as well as possible measures to keep rural
migrants from moving to the cities." Behind the back of the President Ferguson and others involved with the OPA
and NSC group maintain that the United States will continue a foreign policy based on a genocidal reduction of the
world's population. 

"We have a network in place of cothinkers in the government," said the OPA case officer. "We keep going, no
matter who is in the White House." But Ferguson reports that the "White House" does not really understand what
they are saying and that the President "thinks that population policy means how do we speed up population increase.
"As long as no one says differently," said Ferguson, "we will continue to do our jobs. "

Fruits and Vegetables Can Save Your Life

They say ignorance is bliss but I question how true that is. The
impact nutrition has on our health is a topic that Americans can
no longer avoid. According to federal reports obesity will soon
top cigarette smoking as the leading cause of avoidable death
among Americans. A few of the other top killers of Americans are
cancers of all types, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension,
heart attacks and strokes. All of these diseases can be
prevented. The American lifestyle is undeniably a toxic one. I
am sure many of you get discouraged by all of the different
reports about what causes cancer. It can very well seem like
everything causes cancer. Many Americans give up and take the
attitude that everything causes cancer, there is nothing they
can do about it, and we will all die of something someday
anyway.


Fortunately, there are actions that we can take to strengthen
our immune system and fight the carcinogens in our environment.
You must begin to focus on a healthy lifestyle from the inside
out. It must never be forgotten that prevention is much easier
than the cure. Yet, unfortunately, Americans seem to be focused
on practicing unhealthy lifestyle habits. Once we get sick we
run to the doctor for medicine to cure us. Instead we should
learn to focus on not needing the cure in the first place.



The major cause of degenerative diseases such as Alzheimerís,
arthritis, Parkinsonís etc, and genetic diseases such as cancer,
are free radicals. Free Radicals are atoms with an odd number of
electrons. Thus, the atom has one unpaired electron in its outer
most shell causing it to be unstable. All of the electrons in an
atom must be paired in order for the atom to be stable. These
unstable electrons are formed when oxygen interacts with certain
molecules. These highly reactive unstable atoms are on a mission
to restore their energy balance by becoming more stable. This
occurs by these unstable atoms snatching another electron from
anywhere, and this is how much of the destruction to our bodies
begins.


Most living organisms on planet Earth need oxygen to survive.
Oxygen is used for many metabolic processes in our bodies and
free radicals are created in many of these highly complex
reactions. Most of the free radicals are restricted within the
process and are neutralized immediately, but a few will escape.
When a free radical escapes it goes wild in your body and
destructively seeks an electron. These electrons can be pulled
from your cell membrane and/or it can get into the nucleus of
your cell and take an electron from the DNA contained there.
Every cell in your body is creating free radicals all day, and
once a free radical stabilizes itself by causing damage to
another molecule the cycle multiplies because several more free
radicals are then created.


This process leads to a mountain of damaged cells which causes
the diseases associated with aging; such as many types of
cancers, heart disease, Alzheimerís disease, respiratory
function, cataracts, memory and cognitive function, age related
macular degeneration, stroke, immune system degradation,
wrinkles (from the sun), Parkinsonís, Arthritis, Lupus, Multiple
Sclerosis, Scleroderma etc. Free radicals can attack any part of
the cell, each of which elicits a different consequence. Since
free radicals are different they vary in their actions and how
they are produced.


Free radicals are everywhere in the world around us. They can be
found in polluted air due to ozone and nitrogen dioxide,
cigarette smoke, some food preservatives, including nitrites,
prolonged aerobic activity and fat metabolism to name a few.
Free Radicals are so abundant in the environment around us that
there is no way to completely avoid them. It is often hard to
decrease your exposure to them in a significant way.
Nevertheless, there is a way you can build up your immune system
to combat free radical damage.


I am sure you have all heard the term "Anti-Oxidant," and may
not be quite sure what it is. Anti-oxidants work to prevent
cellular damage by free radicals. Anti oxidants are molecules
that can react with free radicals in order to prevent cellular
damage from occurring. There are a numerous antioxidants found
in nature. Fruits and vegetables are both abundant in
anti-oxidants such as vitamin A (beta-carotene is a Vitamin
precursor); C and E. Riboflavin (a B vitamin), Selenium,
Glutathione; Cysteine and Uric Acid also have antioxidant
properties. Antioxidants can be found in real chocolate (not the
processed milk chocolate), grape seed extract, green tea, black
tea, whole grains, soy (and tofu), spices fruits and vegetables.



The brighter the color of a fruit or vegetable the more
antioxidant disease fighting properties it has. The same
compounds that are responsible for giving fruit and vegetables
their color is also responsible for its anti-oxidant properties.
Most Americans have been taught that they should eat leafy green
vegetables in abundance. And this is true, but humans should be
eating fruits and vegetables of every color (Red, Orange,
Yellow, White, Green, Blue/Purple). Each color represents a
different chemical compound, which means it is a different
anti-oxidant.


As previously mentioned not all free radicals are the same and
neither is all anti-oxidants. So while it is ok to take a
multi-vitamin or an anti-oxidant supplement, the best source of
vital nutrients is from the food itself. Supplements should only
be used a few times a week as a safety net. It is absolutely
false ideology to think you can eat a bad diet, and then take
vitamins and think you will be fine. Each Anti-oxidant
specializes in neutralizing a different free radical. This is
why they are all important and we can never get enough.


It is important to make sure you do not overcook your vegetables
or drench them in too much water. A large percentage of the
water-soluble vitamins will leak out into the water. If you
drink the water your vegetables were cooked in you can still
consume the water-soluble vitamins. Thus, you want to prepare
your vegetables in as little water as possible. Fruit and
vegetables are also high in water and insoluble fiber. Fiber is
good for the prevention of certain types of cancer such as colon
cancer. Fiber and water both aid in regular fecal excretion and
they are calorie free ways to fill up. Fiber also helps to
regulate blood sugar, triglycerides and cholesterol levels.


It is recommended that you eat the fruit rather than drink fruit
juice. Many commercial fruit juices are terrible for your health
because they are mixed with high fructose corn syrup and other
artificial sweeteners and flavors. But even natural fruit juice
often causes bloods sugar levels to rise very rapidly since the
fiber has been stripped out of the juice. And a huge spike in
blood sugar causes a quick increase in insulin production, which
can lead to obesity, diabetes and heart disease.


So, does an apple a day keep the doctor away? Not really. The
current fruit and vegetable recommendation from the American
Dietetic Association is 5-9 servings a day. It is ideal to
consume a fruit and/or vegetable with every meal and they serve
as great snacks! Numerous epidemiology studies demonstrate that
those populations, such as many Asian cultures, who consume
fruit and vegetables in abundance, along with soy and green tea,
have almost a non-existent rate of cancer. So eat your fruits
and veggies folks; they can literally save your life!
