"Fighting for Freedom is…"

by Dr. Ridgely A. Mu’min Muhammad

(This is the full text of the speech delivered by Dr. Ridgely Muhammad on January 20, 2001 at the
"Day of Resistance Shadow Inauguration" event in DC)

Don’t fight the power, be the Power!

America does not know what democracy looks like. America has never seen democracy, so how would
she know?

Some Americans think that they are "free" and will go to war to protect what they think
is the "American way of life". But this election process has shown all of us that
something stinks in this "promised land".

The devil is in the details, but the power is in the pen. We have got to use the power of the
people to make the pens rewrite the rules that the "loan sharks" use to box us in.

There are only three types of people in America: the lawyers, the bankers and the common stock.
The government is run by the liars, I mean lawyers. The country is owned by the loan sharks, I mean
bankers. And the rest of us are treated like cattle, common stock.

I am here to represent the Black Farmers and Agriculturists Association and we came today to
endorse both the Pro-Democracy Campaign and its 10 point program called the "Voters’ Bill of
Rights". These "Bill of Rights" are the first step in bringing democracy to America.

We Black farmers know what it feels like to have your assets stolen by the bankers using the pen
of the lawyers. Now many white Americans finally can feel what it feels like to have your power and
rights stolen with the stroke of a pen.

The Voters’ Bill of Rights is a beginning. It is a means to an end. However, we must not fool
ourselves, America was never a democracy of the common people, black, white, red or yellow.

America was set up by a pack of corporate thieves who broke away from a bigger thief. What we
call the "Constitution" was a compromise to balance power between the land owners and
money interests who had incorporated themselves separately as the 13 states. This was a
"gentlemen’s" agreement among the elite, not intended for the common stock.

Soon everything "public" will be privatized. The power outages in California are a sign
of things to come, if we continue down this road of selling the country out. The infrastructure of
America is being auctioned off to the highest bidder who, many times are foreigners.

Soon America will be an "arbitration nation", no more trial by a jury of your peers. To
get a job in the new corporate world you will have to sign away your right to a trial and accept
arbitration.

We must start today to campaign for the 10 points of the Voters’ Bill of Rights to be
formulated into law, while one-man-one-vote exists and there is at least a chance of those votes
being counted. An explanation of each point of these "Voters’ Bill of Rights" can be
downloaded at . They are:

1. Strict Enforcement and Extension of the Voting Rights Act.

2. Abolition of the Electoral College

3. Clean Money Elections

4. Instant Runoff Voting

5. Proportional Representation

6. Voting Rights for Former Prisoners

7. Make Voting Easier and more Reliable

8. Easier access to the Ballot, the Media, and Debates for
Candidates

9. Create Independent and Non-Partisan Election Commissions

10. Statehood for the District of Columbia.

No more "Taxation without Representation!". We demand statehood for DC

We can not wait another four years to participate in the shaping of our own destiny. Fighting for
Freedom is a full time job; you snooze, you lose.

Your alternative voices will never be heard as long as the two parties have a monopoly on
government. We must crash the two parties, party. Because if we don’t, they will continue to
chant:

"Two parties, two parties,

We must
keep two parties.

Let the fools choose,

‘Cause they always will lose.

New money, old money,

We still got the money.

No matter who wins,

We own them both, honey."

Please consider this analysis:

King was not killed because he had a dream.

He was killed when he started messing with the economic scheme.

Lincoln was not killed because of the "Emancipation
Proclamation".

He was killed when he dared to snatch from the bankers the money supply
of this nation.

The devil is in the details, but the power is in the pen.

Don’t fight the power, be the Power.

Don’t waste this hour, use your power,

And use your pen to rewrite the box that they got us in.

Fighting for Freedom is a full-time job!

Peace, Doc

Making Useless Land Useful

by Dr. Ridgely Abdul Mu’min Muhammad

In previous articles we have discussed how the economic system can make useful land useless and
how land can be a liability instead of an asset. However, with a change in the economic environment
that same piece of land can be made useful. The question is whether the market is willing to pay a
price that the farmer can make a profit by using the land to grow a crop.

At one time (1910) black farmers owned over 16 million acres of land. That number has been
reduced to less than 3 million acres and yet much of that acreage is not being used to grow crops or
raise livestock. Much of this land is actually owned by people who live in the cities but have
inherited the land from deceased relatives. Many of these city dwellers are interested in moving
back to the land but do not know how they can make that land economically useful.

To help us understand the dynamics of the problem and discover possible solutions, we will use
Muhammad Farms as a typical farm in the Southeast, where most of our black farmers used to farm.
When the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan redeemed 1600 acres of farmland in Terrell County
Georgia in 1995, the previous owner was only farming about 82 acres of the land. About 600 acres
were in timber and wetlands and the other 800 plus crop acres were sitting idle held in a government
set aside program which paid the owner about $35 per acre. In other words the government was paying
the owner $35 to rent his land and let it sit idle.

These 800 acres had grown over in weeds and we had to decide on whether to take the land out of
the program or leave it in. Our mission of course was to use the land to grow food for our people,
but we could not and can not afford to lose money in the process. One of the crops that we wanted to
grow was wheat. In 1995 when we got the land, wheat sold for $3.37 per bushel. Since that time wheat
has gone down as low as $2.17 in 2000 and as high as $4.42 in 1996. To make a decision on growing
wheat or just renting the land out to the government we have to know how much it costs to grow the
wheat. The University of Georgia estimates that it takes about $115 in variable costs to grow an
acre of wheat. This $115 includes items like seed, fertilizer, fuel and labor but does not include
the cost for the tractors, equipment, taxes or the cost of the land.

The average yield per acre in Southwest Georgia is about 40 bushels per acre. In 1995 wheat sold
for $3.37 per bushel. If we multiply this price of wheat times 40 bushels we get a per acre revenue
of $134.80. When you subtract the cost of production ($115) you are left with a net return of $19.80
per acre. On the other hand, the government is offering $35 per acre not to farm the land. If you
subtract this “rent” from the returns ($19.80-$35), you would make $15.20 more by renting
it out than by growing wheat. Therefore, it would make economic sense to rent the land to the
government and not grow wheat in 1995.

Now when we do these same type of calculations and put them on a time chart from 1995 through
2008, we can understand why farmers in some years will grow wheat, while in other years would choose
to rent their land out to the government or someone else (see chart below). This chart shows that in
1995 thru 1998 a farmer could make money on growing wheat, but only in 96 and 97 would he make more
from growing the wheat than renting the land out. From 1998 thru 2002 the farmer could not even
cover his variable costs (Variable Returns were negative), so definitely he would rent the land out
and not grow wheat. From 2003 thru 2007 the farmer could make a little money by growing wheat, but
the money he would receive from the market would be less than what he could get just by renting the
land out. Therefore, it would be wiser to rent the land out, get the $35 per acre and not grow
wheat.

Evidently this is what a lot of farmers did across America because world wheat reserves have
dropped by 14 million metric tons, the lowest in 25 years. However, this fall futures prices for
wheat to be harvested in July of 2008 have jumped up to as high as $9.61 in August of 2007. This has
led farmers to increase wheat acreage from 60.4 million acres for the 2006/2007 season to an
estimated 62.2 million acres for the 2007/2008 season. Thus, this anticipated high price for wheat
has had the expected effect, causing farmers to plant more, but the increased acreage has now
lowered the anticipated price down to $7.88. This price could even go lower depending on yields in
this country and abroad.

So as the market price for wheat fluctuates, so do the economic signals that induce a farmer to
grow wheat or let the land sit idle. These market conditions are out of the hands of the individual
farmers unless they take another strategy which we have done at Muhammad Farms. When prices fell as
low as $2.17 in 2000 we decreased our wheat acreage but decided to get into what is called
value-added processing. We began to mill our wheat into flour and sell it directly to members of our
buying clubs in the cities.

One bushel of wheat weighs 56 pounds. Therefore a bushel of wheat can yield about 11 five pound
bags of whole wheat flour. Now if we can sell this flour for $3.00 per bag, we can get $33 per
bushel of wheat instead of $2.17 in a bad year or even $9.61 in an exceptional year. By going a step
closer to the consumer the farmer can pull himself out of the fluctuations of the market, which he
has no control over and get a much higher value for his product.

This is a better strategy as long as he can find the buyers. However, if people are not baking
bread, cakes, pies or cookies, but would rather pay $3.00 per loaf for bread, then the farmer is
left with no choice but to react to the market which means not grow wheat in most years. Now if the
consumer understood how much money they could save by buying one of these new bread making machines,
whole wheat flour and baking bread for themselves, they just might be able to help black farmers
turn useless land into something useful. They also would be eating healthier.

Dear consumer, a five pound bag of whole wheat flour from Muhammad Farms can supply you with five
loaves of bread weighing one pound each. If this five pound bag of flour costs you $3.00, you could
make five loaves of bread at a little over $3.50 ($0.70 per loaf) including the cost of the other
ingredients. You are now paying about $15 for the five loaves of bread at the grocery store. Please
do the math, make the choice and help make non-useful land useful once again. It is not “rocket
science”, just a matter of choice. Eat to live or die broke.

2011 MOA Conference Proceedings:

Ministry of Agriculture Oakland CA Buying Club

By Sis. Majeeda and Bro Carlton Muhammad

Conference Report 15, January 2011

Dawson GA

Progression of MOA – Oakland (2006 -2010)

2006

Established a backyard garden in an unused lot of a Believer that
measured 30’x50′, wherein we in ground planted 30 different vegetables and
herbs. For the 9 months we had access to the property, we harvested and sold
fresh vegetables and herbs to the Believers on Sundays.

Carlton Muhammad, my husband, and I constructed two large redwood planter
boxes (4’x10′ x24” and 3’x6’x24”) filled with top soil, which was
donated by Sis Wilma X, our most senior Sister (my Mother), to MUI students
at our Mosque. Approximate value of donation $900.00

2007

Established a Buying Club which ran for approximately 10 months and
stopped due to lack of proper organization.

Constructed and assisted with the construction of planter boxes for the
growing of food for the African Advanced Learning Center, an independent
african-centered school.

2008

Acquired the opportunity to use City owned Community Garden within a
beautiful park in our neighborhood. Consisting of 12, 8’x4′ planter boxes, 9
of which we manage through our Non-Profit, Oakland Agricultural Group. The
Members growing food in the boxes are Believers from our Mosque (MM26B), and
the interaction with the community is positive in that they enjoy seeing
their own people growing food instead of white folks in our communities. One
of our Brothers from the community looks out for the garden and in return we
give him whatever he wants that is growing there. We will begin preparing
our soil early February for spring planting in March. You may visit out
website www.oaklandurbangardens.org
to view some of our work.

2009

Motivated by the blueprint of The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad wherein
he states, Recognize the necessity for unity and group operations
(activities)”
“Pool your resources, physically as well as
financially, The Honorable Minister Farrakhan’s Address to us on “Accepting
Responsibility to Build Our Communities, and the work and inspiration of our
National Ministry of Agriculture by Dr. Ridgley and Sis Anne Muhammad.
We
reorganized, restructured and reestablished our Produce Buying Club and held
our first event, May 16 with 27 Members participating. We currently operate
every other Saturday and have signed on over 100 members with over half
participating in every Produce Event. The majority of our Members are
outside of the Believing Community. One of the goals of the MOA Oakland is
“To establish a Member-Owned Cooperative Corporation in the Black
Community, as an example of our collective work and a benefit to our health
and economy.” www.yourmarketproduce.com

2010 –

Supporters have offered use of a 6500 sq ft lot for the purpose of
establishing a Community Garden to increase access to fresh produce in the
black community as well as teaching and training the importance of growing our
own food, preparing for food shortages and working in a collective manner.
This opportunity will also allow some production of vegetables and herbs for
our Buying Club Members. The lot is currently undeveloped.

Held several Solar Cooking Workshops along with Sis Melva X, in San
Francisco at Whitney Young Child Development Center and Oakland at Masjid
Tasbeeh.

Received Non-Profit status for The Oakland Agricultural Group, Inc., for
the purpose of acquiring Private and City land use to grow fresh produce,
increase community access and awareness throughout our communities.

We are grateful for the efforts of Dr. Ridgley and Sis Anne Muhammad and all
of the Believers serving in this great labor as stewards of the land of our
Nation, producing food for our Nation and working to feed the 40 million.

EAT RIGHT LIVE WELL

RIDDING OUR COMMUNITY OF CHILDHOOD OBESITY

By Sister Kemba Muhammad, Jacksonville, Fla.

Obesity is the number one disease that is plaguing us, our families,
communities and our nation. It is also the number robber of our health, welfare,
finances and life. Many adults have had to have limbs amputated, they have lost
their eyesight, and have develop many other debilitating aliments. The best part
of this disease is that it is preventable, and the worst part is that we do not
do what it takes to keep us healthy and fit.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention stated that there are a variety
of factors that play a role in Obesity;

· Behavior

· Environment

· Genetic

The Honorable Elijah Muhammad stated that if you eat one meal a day and eat
the right foods we would not be plague with obesity and it illnesses.

The CDC also states that obesity results from an energy imbalance. This
comes from eating too many calories and not getting enough physical activity;
Body weight is the result of genes, metabolism, behavior, environment, culture
and socioeconomic status. They also said that behavior and environment play a
large role causing people to be overweight and obese.

Yes these factors plays a role however if we practice the teachings of the
Honorable Elijah Muhammad and follow the guidance in his books called How to
Eat to Live he will teach you how to master all of these factors.

When it comes to maintaining a healthy weight for a lifetime, the bottom
line is calories count! Weight management is all about balance- balancing the
numbers of calories you consume with the number of calories your body uses or
“Burn off”.

Exercise is very important because of our sedentary life style, however if
we followed the How to Eat to Live program you would not have to exercise to
burn off calories because our meals are not high in calories if we prepare
them correctly.

A Calorie is defined as a unit of energy supplied by food. A calorie is a
calorie regardless of its source. Whether you’re eating carbohydrates, fats,
sugar, or proteins, all of them contain calories.

Caloric balance is like a scale. To remain in balance and maintain your
body weight, the calories consumed (from foods) must be balance by the
calories used (in normal body functions, daily activities, and exercise.

If you are” in balance” you are eating roughly the same number of
calories that your body is using. Your weight will remain
stable.

If you are “in caloric excess” you are eating more calories than your
body is using. You will store these extra calories as fat and you’ll gain
weight.

Losing weight “In caloric deficit” you are eating fewer calories than you
are using, your body is pulling from its fat storage cells for energy, so your
weight is decreasing.

Genetics and the environment may increase the risk of personal weight gain.
However, the choices a person makes in
eating and physical activity also contributes to overweight and obesity.

People may make decisions based on their environment or community. For
example, a person may choose not to walk to the store because of a lack of
sidewalks. Communities, homes, and workplace

Can all influence people’s health decisions. Because of this influence, it
is important to create environments in these locations that make it easier to
engage in physical activity and to eat a healthy diet.

FACTS

· In the state of Florida where I live 25-29% of the
population is obese.

· Blacks had 51 percent higher prevalence (meaning
widely existing, practiced, and accepted) of obesity in the US.

· Greater prevalence of obesity for blacks and whites
were found in the South and Midwest.

· Childhood Obesity (2008) report children 2-5 years
of age obesity has increased from 5.0% to 12.4%.

· 6-11 years of age increased from 6.5%-17.0%.

· 12-19 years of age increased from 5.0%-17.6%.

· One in 7 low-income preschool age children are obese’

· American Indians and Alaska Native are the only race
or ethnic group with increasing rate and has increased ½% point each year.
(2003-2008).

· In 2008, obesity prevalence was 11.8% among black
children American Indians or Alaska Native was the highest (21.2%).

Now that you have heard some Facts and have seen the articles in the Final
Call, the time is what must be done and not what should be done. It first starts
in the homes with the adults. Children only do what you allow them to do and eat
what you allow them to eat. So if you are unhealthy and eat poorly and you feed
them the same foods you eat, they quite naturally they will have the same
unhealthily life style.

Adults have to;

· Reduce time spent washing television and in other
sedentary behaviors.

· Build physical activity into regular routines.

· Incorporate How to Eat to Live in your daily
lives.

Unfortunately many of our children (Nation of Islam) are still in public
school and eating those free lunches. What are you thinking? If they are eating
those breakfast and lunch foods they are eating foods that start the overweight
and obesity trend and ultimately illnesses and possible death.

The schools are not supplying adequate daily physical education. So you must
incorporate that in your family daily activities.

We as members of the Nation of Islam cannot go into the community to Teach
Civilization when we are not practicing it ourselves. If we want healthy
children then we must become healthy, follow the teaching and make How to Eat to
Live fun, and enjoyable then we can go to the community with a successful
program.

What Must be Done

First of all we must;

· Practice and teach the science of How to Eat to
Live.

· Learn and teach the art of growing your own food.

· Learn and teach the science of cooking, baking,
canning your food and making it fun.

· Educate ourselves, our youth, and others the true
meaning and results of fast foods.

· Educate ourselves, our youth, and others what must
be done to protect our freedom for producing our own food.

My final statement is we all claim not to have enough time. Well that depends
on you and your priorities. You either want life and life more abundantly or you
want death to you and your families.

Minister Farrakhan gave us a tool to free ourselves to do what we need to do.
The tool is Dianetics. If we would get on the course of study and complete it,
get audited to release those Engrams that are stopping you from reaching your
full potential. I guarantee you will think better, have more life force, able to
manage your time better, think better of yourself, and you will look around and
fine that you are able to do more than you did before and you will be able to
get done everything you need to do.

The Great Pyramid [#206 of 240] Posted on Mon 03 Jan ’00 (10:37 AM) by (Ankmin)

The geopolitics of water continues to be an important issue until this day along the Nile River.
Just as I stated that America would like to blow up the water works of Qaddafi out in the Libyan
Desert, the west already controls the most lucrative agricultural area in the Sudan.

There is a huge island in the Nile river near Khartoum, the capital of Sudan. The IMF loaned
money to the Sudan for purposes of developing this area called the Gezira.

However, the Sudanesse are not allowed to grow food in this area, they must grow cotton for
export to Europe.

The issue of water and food were most important to the Kings and Queens of Kemet. If you go back
to my diagram of the Gizeh plateau and look at the Eastern Cemetery, then look at a picture of a
King (Pharaoh) sitting on his throne, you will be looking at a diagram exposing the "seat of
his power". Like the "Seat" that you see as outlined by the Eastern Cemetery, the
"seat" on which the King sits is on "water".

When the Nile flooded before building of the Aswan Dam, the waters would rise up to the would
be sitting on the Nile, the key to the King’s power.

One can also take the symbolism of "the seat of power sitting on water" to an esoteric
level where now "water" represents knowledge or wisdom. Now the symbolism of the Great
Pyramid sitting in the seat of power over the water, can represent man being full of and in control
of knowledge in "the Information Age". (just thinking)

But as Nutty stated, each one has a right to see what one wills. However, certain interpretations
lead to other discoveries and links while others simply are stated and die.

Truth is something that one can build on as a firm foundation. Experimentation with ideas will
prove their validity, while conceptual arguments can only increase or decrease ones
"belief" in those ideas. In other words "truth" can only be verified through
action.

Peace, Doc

DOC…Picking on me again!!!

Well I will not fight, My head is still

spinning from watching "2001:A Space Odyssey"

But I do know If I look out of my window at

the cars in the parking lot, I can make my own

speculation about why people parked in

certain spaces and in certain directions.

But in reality, I know that 99% of the answer

to my speculation would be:: "Mere

Coincidence ."

Well I think it will be the same for the

Graveyards in your diagram…

But I could be wrong, I’m waiting on your

book to get futher proof.!!

Happy New Year!!!!

The Great Pyramid [#208 of 240] Posted on Mon 03 Jan ’00 (11:14 AM) by (Ankmin)

The issue of mere coincidence is a real possibility for the seeming mathematical constants that
the Great Pyramid portrays and the layout of the Gizeh plateau. In fact Sir Flanders Petrie to whom
we owe a lot of the actual measurements of the pyramids and their relationship to each other also
believed that there was no meaning to the placement of the buildings.

Of course the layout of cars in a parking lot can be changed at will and the effort necessary to
place them in any pattern would be far less than the placement of these
massive
structures which were seemingly built to last forever. Now you also must remember that these cars
are parked in marked slots that someone had designed and someone else had painted. Therefore the
cars’ drivers responded to a pre-ordained pattern set out by another person, not a spook.

This is why I love my ancestors so much, because they knew that their descendents would be placed
in a grave of disspare and "meaninglessness": life without meaning or purpose. So they
left us a "big sign" which I read as "don’t believe the hype, the white boy is
lying."

This is why I encourage others to look at these buildings and structures for themselves to make
their own calls. However, I would be negligent in my duties as a "civilized" man if I did
not present my own.

Nutty,

If it seems like I am picking on you, you must remember how and the spirit in which we first met
many posts ago on this thread. I do.

Peace, Doc

I did not mean the Pyramids..I was refering

That’s all…

The Great Pyramid [#210 of 240] Posted on Mon 03 Jan ’00 (11:29 AM) by (Nutty)

OK..NOw DOc…

Now Similar structures were found in other

places of the world too..

Did’nt the Myan Indians , Inca’s..etc have

similar wonders…

How do you tie that in with a message for

blacks as well..? or were those ruins left as

a message to their people????

Just Asking…?

The Great Pyramid [#211 of 240] Posted on Mon 03 Jan ’00 (11:38 AM) by (Nutty)

Is it not a SUPREMIST attitude that

believes that their culture, beliefs, race

,etc…is superior to others??

Don’t we get mad when WHITE Folks do the

same???

Did’nt the Egyptians let Pythagarus and other

non-blacks study at their schools?

Just Asking…Again????

The Great Pyramid [#212 of 240] Posted on Mon 03 Jan ’00 (12:59 PM) by (Ankmin)

Nutty,

You asked: "Did’nt the Myan Indians ,

Inca’s..etc have similar wonders…

How do you tie that in with a message for

blacks as well..? or were those ruins left

as a message to their people????"

Yes the Mayan and other Native Americans also had similar structures. Near here in Macon, Georgia
there is a whole series of "Indian Mounds". I am sure that they had special meaning and I
am researching those as well. Of course others would be much further ahead on those structures than
myself since I have spent so much time on the Pyramids in Egypt. I have drawn a few
"lines" on the globe that may indicate some connections but this format (message board)
does not facilitate those types of exhibits.

You said, "Is it not a SUPREMIST attitude

that believes that their culture, beliefs,

race ,etc…is superior to others??"

You must clarify to me what I have said that represents a "SUPREMIST attitude".

When I referred to the measurements of Petrie and his interpretation of the structures on the
Gizeh plateau as not being related to each other, I was talking about my diagram.

Without my imposition of the quarter circle and some radial lines, this is just how the Gizeh
plateau looks in many books that one might find in the libraries. The first question I must ask is:
Is the quarter of a circle that I drew simply coincidental or spurious or have I uncovered some
underlying motif or pattern? If such a pattern exists was it intentionally developed by the
architects or just coincidental?

Peace, Doc

The Great Pyramid [#213 of 240]Posted on Mon 03 Jan ’00 (02:05 PM) by (Nutty)

well, one thing you said…way back there

about a mile up or so was:

that the Whites or devils as you put it, were

keeping this knowledge from us.

Now if ya call one group devils or evil,

would’nt that make your GOD or good?

Well the same thing is said in KKK

forums…but of course reversed….

They claim that we(BLACKS) are the

cursed(evil) offsprings…

And they also call whites that don’t agree

with their ideas…"NIGGA-Lovers"…

And what do we call BLACKS THAT don’t agree

with some of the popular BLACK ideas "Uncle

Tom’s, Must be White",…etc…"

Well I think it kinda shows the same

MENTALITY….

Maybe We got more in common with the WHITE

HATE GROUPS than we care to admit…

BUT I COULD BE WRONG…!!!

Some other GREAT contributions by NON-WHITES

are:

THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA…

THE 16th Chapel…

THE Eiffel tower

EIENSTIEN’S THEORY OF RELATIVITY…

But I do understand your point about BLACKS

needing to know their history and the Great

things that were accomplished by our

people….

I guess it’s kinda like KARATE…huh?

Where you start off with the WHITE BELT..(no

knowledge/novice)..

ANd you work your way up to the BLACK

BELT..(all knowledge/expert)…

So Being BLACK is the culmination of ALL

KNOWLEDGE…right..

So the EGYPTIANS were BLACK

Nutty,

You said earlier:"DOC…DON’T WASTE YA TIME

WITH ME"

I am beginning to understand what you meant by that statement.

Now you said"that the Whites or devils as you put it, were keeping this knowledge from
us."

So I used the "find" function on my computer to find where I called "white
people" devils. I searched for the word "devil" or "devils" and here is
what I found:

"So today either we grow out of the "four devils" of lust for power, jealousy,
pride and ignorance (you may add more if you like, smile)or be killed by our albino babies called by
us the Kheftiu (suicidal deniers of their mother, Africa)."

Also: I said, "Words produce "spirit" and lies produce "devils". White
supremacy is a lie, therefore…"

You must have filled in the left out portion of that sentence with your own thoughts. You should
not project your thoughts as mine. In case my "find" function is not working properly I
will give you an opportunity to find the statements where I called "white people devils",
if not then you should try to not use such disruptive behavior in the class. I know its hard.

Peace, Doc

DOC…What does a devil do…?

Lie, Steal and Cheat…So you did not use

the word "Devil" Literally …but from the

numerous ref. to Whites as lying, holding back

knowledge, and producing a White Supreamist

attitude..you used the word figuratively…

Just like when you say

"try not to use such disruptive behavior in

the class"

You did’nt say that your were the TEACHER and

I was the STUDENT…but I can pull that from

that sentence.

It’s funny how you neglected the Latter part

of that POST…and went straight for the one

Point you thought you could win…LOL…

BUT it aint a FIGHT…AND YOU know, I keep

you on your toes…

agenda…????????

That’s the question you should ask yourself..

The Great Pyramid [#217 of 240] Posted on Mon 03 Jan ’00 (06:38 PM) by (Ankmin)

Nutty,

I am sorry if I did not answer all your questions.

Is this one: "Did’nt the Egyptians let Pythagarus and other non-blacks study at their
schools?"

Yes they did. And when Pythagoras and Socrates and very select group of others went back to
Greece they were given a hard time because they were trying to bring light into the darkness of
their compatriots minds. This "light" was foreign to them so they persecuted the
light-bearers. Then after persecuting the light-bearers, they distorted that light and began to
represent the "light" from a distorted, egocentrical point of view. Since the Kemetic
people did not claim knowledge on an individual basis, the Greeks would "copyright" their
teachers ideas and claim them for themselves. This same process continues as bio-tech firms are
going into other countries and claiming certain profitable genetic strains as their own by taking
out patents on life forms, then selling it back to the people the plants belonged to for centuries.
Some things never change.

As I stated earlier our schools were called by the outsiders "Mystery Schools". I
really can not give you an explanation as to why these foreigners were allowed to study, unless I go
back to my earlier premise that our scientists were doing mass psychological and genetic experiments
trying to track down the root cause of man’s rebellious behavior.

Now let me go back to my previous questions which were not answered: "The first question I
must ask is: " Is the quarter of a circle that I drew simply coincidental or spurious or have I
uncovered some underlying motif or pattern? If such a pattern exists was it intentionally developed
by the architects or just coincidental?"

Your opinions are welcome.

The Great Pyramid [#220 of 240] Posted on Mon 03 Jan ’00 (08:32 PM) by (Ankmin)

The master mind behind the design of the pyramid complexes and temples was a little black big
head scientist by the name of Imhotep (at least that was one of his names).

You seem to suggest that maybe the Kemetic people had flying machines. Maybe they did.

One of their hieroglyphs, the one representing the rain-god (neter) Min is called a bolt of
lightening. However, the only time I have seen lightening give the pattern shown by this glyph is
when I was in an airplane and was flying parallel to a large storm cloud at night. Flash, there it
was.

However, the point I was making about the patterns is that they are too intricate to be just
coincidental. The west in their quest for gold and riches have done the world a great favor by
cleaning off the greatest book in the world, written with stones, readable only from a birds eye
position (Eye of Horus, the falcon). The Book even gets larger than the Gizeh plateau, but we will
confine ourselves to it for now.

I am not arguing against the possibility of them having airships, however I believe that a
surveyor could lay out these patterns without being in a plane. Of I course that’s easy for me to
say since I am neither a surveyor or a pilot.

Re: the thread:

During the French invasion of Egypt in 1798, Gen. Napoleon Bonaparte, angered upon seeing that
the face of the Great Sphinx at the Gizeh Pyramid complex was that of an African woman, ordered his
cannons to blow the face up. But due to the ancient Egyptians’ superior knowledge of construction
and masonry, all they could destroy was the nose.

In all the pictures of the Egyptian Pharaohs that I’ve seen, one thing is very conspicuous –
their noses are either partially or completely destroyed. The same holds true for the statues of
prominent ancient Egyptian women. Isn’t our nose the most prominent indicator of our Blackness? I
think this was done on purpose – and for a specific purpose – by the Caucasian tomb robbers. They
also knew that the nose of the African is the most prominent indicator of his Blackness.

The Great Pyramid [#223 of 240]Posted on Tue 04 Jan ’00 (08:17 AM) by (Repeater)

(Ankmin):

I know that you are familiar with the new breed of young Egyptologists who now claim that the
pyramids were built thousands of years before most modern-day Egyptologists said they were. Using
computer technology they traced the alignment of the three pyramids of the Gizeh Plateau to the
three stars in the belt of the constellation Orion as it crossed the equator 10,500 years ago. This
was the Age of Leo, and the building of the sphinx represented the time when mankind was entering
the Age of Virgo. The body of the sphinx is a lion (the symbol for Leo) and the head is of a woman
(the symbol for Virgo is "The Virgin").

Now this "new" information presents more

questions: Who were these people who lived in

Egypt 10,500 years ago? And where did they get

the knowledge to build such astounding

pyramids and statues?

The Great Pyramid [#224 of 240]

Posted on Tue 04 Jan ’00 (10:13 AM) by (Ankmin)

Repeater,

You asked: "Who were these people who lived

in Egypt 10,500 years ago? And where did they

get the knowledge to build such astounding

pyramids and statues?"

The simple answer is that they were Black people from Africa. So far I have traced them back up
the Nile to Sudan and Ethiopia. I based this on findings by Whittfogel where they found domesticated
cereals of at least16,000 years old in the Nile valley south of the Aswan Dam.

What makes the pyramids so striking is that we do not have any other similar examples of

high technology. Why? The question of this missing link is why outsiders or aliens are brought in
to cover this gap.

An explanation of the lack of evidence of high civilization before 6,000 years ago has been given
to us by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. However, I prefer not to use those teachings as a reference
until I can find other evidence that verifies his position.

Another possibility for the lack of evidence is that they deteriorated or just have not yet been
discovered. Another possibility is that such evidence of high civilization before 6,000 years ago
has been suppressed due to ideological reasons. Dating can be very political and the technology for
dating is held by the same set of people who have a stake in keeping the dates within the 6,000 year
period, witness the argument over the age of the Sphinx.

The Great Pyramid [#230 of 240] Posted on Tue 04 Jan ’00 (04:26 PM) by (Ankmin)

Sista,

Yes, it makes plenty sense that Africans were intricately involved with the development of
America. The concept of racism is relatively new, so their would be no
reason not to appreciate wisdom presented in the right spirit. What I am saying is not that the
Africans had all the answers. What I am saying is that the world of many ethnic varieties were in
contact with each other and shared with each other for millions of years before the advent of the
so-called white man.

What I am trying to do is find out as much as I can about that past realizing that I am
handicapped by the money, travel time and equipment to do primary data collection.

Fortunately we are blessed with structures such as the pyramids to help us understand that past
and the connections between the peoples.

If as Nutty has suggested, the Western Cemetery of the Gizeh plateau as shown on my web page is
indeed a map of the USA, then of course Africans must have visited this continent or flew over it to
be able to make such a detailed and realistic map. This map of the US on the Gizeh plateau developed
almost 6,000 years ago is a lot more realistic than the Europeans’ maps of Africa, Asia and even
Europe until just recently.

A good book to read about "monotheism" is a book written by Sigmend Fraud called
"Moses and Monotheism." He also attributes "monotheism" as understood by the
west to come from Akhenaten.

However, based on what I understand about the "neters" being attributes of the
"One" and not independent "gods", the concept of One God is a lot older than
Akhenaten. Akhenaten was trying to close down all the other universities except the one
"worshiping" and studying the principle of "Aten", the creative power
represented by the sun’s disk.

We have here a battle of "Amen" against "Aten", similar to the conflict of
some of those who claim Islam against some of those who claim Judaism, while they both claim Abraham
as their father and they claim to worship the "One God".

"Who is God?"

"Allah."

"No, Yahweh."

"Let’s fight."

Old habits die hard. And the people perish due to a lack of knowledge and wisdom, while
priesthoods, religious and secular, get paid. (commentary)

The Great Pyramid [#231 of 240] Posted on Wed 05 Jan ’00 (05:02 AM) by (Ankmin)

The Native American word for "corn" is "maize". The name of one of the great
Kings of Kemet is Ramesses II. His name is broken down as Ra-messes or Ra-mezzes. Now the
"mess" or "mezz" portion of his name is represented by a glyph which the white
egyptologists have described as "3 fox tails" tied together.

However, when my son and I visited Egypt we saw this glyph on a temple wall the size of your
torso. My son when he saw it instinctively said, "Look Pop, that’s corn!". The grains of
corn were so distinct, it looked like that they could still be scraped off the cob. Children have a
way of just saying what they see and not what they are "supposed" to see.

In fact the glyph which the establishment wants to call "three fox tails" is in fact
the picture of 9 ears of corn strung up in threes that looks like an "m". However, the
establishment had to lie about what they saw because to call that glyph, "maize" would
have profound implications about their other lied, "Egyptians never sailed outside of the Nile
River".

Truth is hard to find among thieves androbbers.

The Great Pyramid [#236 of 240] Posted on Wed 05 Jan ’00 (08:34 AM) by (Ankmin)

Nutty,

I have read books speculating about Atlantis, Lemueria and Mu. The only hard evidence of
"Atlantis" was a statement by Solon according to the writings of Plato as to what the
Egyptian priests told him. So-called "Atlantis" sunk 1,000 years before Solon, the Greek,
not 10,000. The 10,000 year thing is a modern "revisionist" interpretation of the story of
Solon, the Greek. The Aegean Sea may be a better place to look for "Atlantis" as Jocqeu
Costeau, the underwater explorer, has done around the Island of Thera which I talk about in my book.

However, I prefer deal with hard evidence, the "Great Pyramid" and the Gizeh plateaus
to

see what I can glean from these hard stones since water has supposedly covered the evidence of
those other places.

If you want to argue about "speculations", then argue about my "speculations"
about the meaning of the layout of the Gizeh plateau and the "air vents" in the Great
Pyramid. This is the issue on this thread.

If one does the calculations on what would be the diameter of the earth if the moon’s volume was

"Akhet Khufu" means Luminous Khufu as was the name of the Great Pyramid. More

Putting the capstone on is just symbolic of the completion of the "New World Order".
Executive orders have been put in place since 1969 in preparation for Y2K: the institution of
martial law, the setting up of concentration camps, requirements of forced labor, storm trooper as
witnessed in Seattle. This is to represent the culmination of their

plans. However, it probably is not December 28, 1999, so the Y2K celebration is probably out of
time anyway. At least they should have considered Ramadan into their calculations.

It is a war to put a few more Black men in jail to reduce the Black sperm count in our
communities, then dazzle the minds of our sisters so that they can produce a new breed of confused
slaves to work to feed the rich.

Everything is becoming privatized and Black folks ain’t got the capital to buy into this
"New World Order". However, the rich need us to work for them and buy their junk which is
their weak point.

The Great Pyramid [#186 of 203] Posted on Tue 28 Dec ’99 (11:24 PM) by (Onion)

Let me play devil’s advocate…

What is more advanced? High level of thinking (Kemet)? Or high level of warring power

(Alexander the Great)?

We often like to think that thought is more advanced because it would seem to be. If someone is
perceived to be able to "create" something rather than "destroy" it, then we

would naturally want to call that person "advanced".

However, some people would argue that "might is right". What good is
"thought" if it can be subdued by "power"? (exemplified by that old story of
Aristotle, the young Alexander, and the knot) Then, that "thought" can be used to the
"power"’s advantage…or even better…get the "thinkers" to work for the
"power".

There can be little doubt about the meaning of the pyramids…there still is room for it
however…and their importance. But if "enemy" were to "nuke" them, what good
does it all mean then?

The Great Pyramid [#187 of 203] Posted on Wed 29 Dec ’99 (05:06 AM) by (Ankmin)

Onion,

There is a book called "On War" written near the close of WWII. It is studied by all
western military students. It states that bombs, killing and maiming are just tools in the real war.
The real war is the control of the mind. The killing and bombing are just to break the spirit of the
people. White folks spend more time and money on controlling your mind than they do on bombs. Their
every waking moment is geared to keep you blind, deaf and dumb.

Alexander the Great did not defeat us with weapons. He tricked us and they, so-called

white people, think that we are stupid because we continue to believer their lies.

Black people are buried in the western hemisphere in a shallow grave of ignorance and fear. They
are so afraid that when they see someone who might have the "Master Grip", they run away
screaming or try to destroy the "messenger" of the knowledge.

I do not expect everyone to agree with me or my interpretations of the pyramids, Giza plateau or
history, but I will continue to deliver because that is my responsibility as a civilized man.

Peace, Doc

More problems for the pyramid party.

"Egyptian lawyer files suit against

December 28, 1999, 01:33 PM

CAIRO (AFP) – An Egyptian lawyer has filed a

lawsuit demanding the cancellation of Egypt’s

all-night millennium party at the pyramids

starring French sound and light wizard

Jean-Michel Jarre, court sources said Tuesday.

Lawyer Abdel Halim Ramadan’s suit complained

that too much public money has been spent on

the 9.5-million-dollar extravaganza and that

lasers used to project giant images onto the

three Giza pyrmaids will harm the monuments.

"Egyptians are poor and humble people who

can’t afford such extravagances," Abdel Halim

told reporters at Cairo’s legal and

administrative court which was expected to

rule on the case later Tuesday.

Culture Minister Faruq Hosni has assured

Egyptiansthe monuments will not be damaged and

that the cost of the event is justified,

arguing that worldwide television coverage

would secure Egypt invaluable promotion time.

The lawyer’s suit made no mention of

criticism voiced in parliament and the

press that holding the party is

"disrespectful of Islam" because it coincides

with the holy Muslim fasting month of

Ramadan, court sources said.

Up to 50,000 people are expected to

attend the show, entitled "The Twelve

Dreams of the Sun," which is due to last from

sunset December 31 until dawn January 1.

Out of respect for Ramadan, the opera will

start in a low-key way at sunset, when

Muslims conduct prayers before breaking the

daytime fast, and therewill be discreet

lighting and music inspired by mystical Muslim

chants." Posted from Arabia.Com

Okay, I’ll take the "BAIT". Why is it necessary that you divert attention from the
central points of this thread?

I have presented a lot of "controversial" information, ideas, theories and paradigms.

However, I don’t feel that you care to challenge them with your intellectual insight.

All we can get out of you is your attempts at comedy.

I would appreciate it if you would bring opposing theories and information to "destroy"

The Great Pyramid [#197 of 203] Posted on Thu 30 Dec ’99 (07:29 AM) by (Ankmin)

Nutty,

They did not leave to go to another world. They live within us so they are experiencing the same
pain that we are. I believe that they are working through our subconscious to help us defeat our
enemies.

Of what I have gathered about Kemet it seemed that that civilization had cycles of growth and
decline. If I can see these cycles, then I am sure that their scientists could also. If
these
cycles were caused by genetic defects, then a scientist would want to find out a method to first
expose the defect then secondly, to eradicate the defect.

Within the Kemetic "mythology" is the struggle between first Osiris (Ausar) and Set in
which Set won a temporary victory. Then the struggle continued between Horus, Heru the son of Osiris,
and Set.

In the "Book of Coming Forth by Day" that struggle is internalized to the individual.
Horus is represented as "black" and Set as "red". The "ritual" states
that their are two fighters within my body, Horus and Set, the "black" and the
"red". Now this indicates that there may be two distinct personalities or genetic strands
within each of us and that these two strands fight for supremacy within our psyche. These two
strands may have different cycles of dominance portrayed by the upward and downward cycles of the
history of Kemet.

The scientist of today are using DNA to analyze the mummies of Kemet. I wonder what are they
looking for? Or they looking to trace these lines up to today and what will they do when they find
Horus, the heros,"messiahs", among the Black people of the USA? Just thinking.

The Great Pyramid [#200 of 203] Posted on Thu 30 Dec ’99 (07:52 AM) by (Ankmin)

Nutty,

I have heard about those theories and I do not know anything about how that technology would work
nor if the Kemetic scientists had such technology.

There is a book by Davidovits called "The Book of Stone: Alchemy and Pyramids" in which
he hypothesizes that the Kemetic people were able to fabricate limestone. The word
"chemistry" comes from the word "Kemet" and was first called the "science
of the Blacks".

If his theories are true, which I have gone in more detail in my book, then they would not need
to lift such heavy stones they could just pour them in place using a mold. Then allow the liquid to
harden in place. In fact on my tour of Egypt in 1989 we discovered the unpolished marks of such a
"mold" in the bottom of the Unas Pyramid at Saqqara. The "mold" seemed to be
have made with papyrus mats, looking like a wicker chair imprint on ones pants. Interestingly, the
hieroglyph for stone is a square mat.

Chemical dissolving of limestone and reformation could explain a lot of the other anomalies
within the Great Pyramid’s construction.

HUMMMMMMMM!!!!

MAN…that’s too Simple…But that’s got to

Now with that said, Do you think they used up

a lot of the resources of the land to build

the pyarmids which eventually lead to droughts

and FAMINE……….????

The Great Pyramid [#202 of 203] Posted on Thu 30 Dec ’99 (10:23 AM) by (Ankmin)

The pyramids are mostly limestone. The material for building the limestone blocks for the inner
fill excluding the Tura limestone used for the outer face, were made by using the limestone that was
beneath the pyramids. Remember when I talked about digging out a huge underground lake or
infiltration zone. This material was then used to form the pyramid the same as ants building cones.

Therefore, building of the pyramids did not break the society or destroy great quantities of
resources. As stated earlier each pyramid was a well. According to al-Baz one well could supply
irrigation water for 200 years for 200,000 acres. As you continually use underground water you will
eventually deplete the aquifer if the rate of utilization is greater than the recharge rate. This is
evidently what happened in the northeast Saharra.

However, over time these aquifers may recharge themselves. The building of the Aswan damn has
caused water to seep underground from behind the damn causing the closing of some of the underground
tourist attractions at Saqqara. Therefore the aquifer is being recharged.

You may begin to see how this issue about the pyramids and what they truly represent has
implications not only on a historical basis, but on a geopolitical basis as well. Qhaddafi

intends to use this water to grow food. However, Mubarak will be allowed to use this water only
to grow cotton for Europe. Some issues never die.

The Great Pyramid [#111 of 169]

Posted on Sun 26 Dec ’99 (12:24 PM) by (Nutty)

DOC……."On Pyramids/Bible"

Here Ya Go:

"In that day there shall be an altar to the Lord in the
midst of the land of Egypt, and a
pillar at the border,…and it
shall be for a
sign and for a witness to the Lord of
hosts."

Isaiah 19:19,20

According to a theory by Robert Bauval, the positions of the
Giza pyramids on the ground
are a reflection of the positions of
the stars
in the constellation Orion circa 10,500 B.C.(Graham
Hancock, Keeper Of Genesis pp.
354-355 ) Five of the 7 brightest
stars have
pyramid equivalents: The 3 great pyramids of Khufu,
Khafra, and Menkaura for the belt of
Orion, the pyramid of Nebka
at Abu Rawash
corresponds to the star Saiph and the pyramid
at Zawat al Aryan corresponds to the star Bellatrix.

The Nile river corresponds to the Milky
Way. The principal Giza monuments formed
an accurate terrestrial
map of the stars of
Orion and Sirius as these constellations
appeared in 10,500 BC.

Who could have been observing the skies over Giza in 10,500
BC and who, at that
date, would have had the technical capacity
to realize such monumental works as the Sphinx and
the pyramids? Egyptologists assert there
was no civilization on
Earth at that time, let
alone one capable of planning and
building
such immense, well engineered structures. If they
are right, why do the alignments of Giza
so plainly and
repetitively mirror the skies
of the 11th millennium BC? There
is an answer
in Scripture:

…Jer.32:20:

God has set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even to
this day.
Josephus writes in The Antiquities of the Jews
1.2.3:
They also were the inventors of that peculiar sort
of wisdom which is concerned with the
heavenly bodies, and their
order. And that
their inventions might not be lost before they
were sufficiently known, upon Adam’s prediction
that the world was to be destroyed
at one time by the force of
fire, and at
another time by the violence and quantity of
water, they made two pillars; the one of brick,
the other of stone: they inscribed
their discoveries on them
both, that in case
the pillar of brick should be destroyed by
the
flood, the pillar of stone might remain, and exhibit
those discoveries to mankind; and also
inform them that there
was another pillar of
brick erected by them. Now this remains in
the
land of Siriad to this day.

The Bible mentions the constellation Orion specifically:
twice in Job (Job 9:9;38:31) and
once in Amos (Amos 5:8). The
Hebrew name for
Orion is Chesil which means "a strong one,
a
hero". The Egyptian name for Orion is Oar meaning
"brightness" and also Hagat, "this is
he who
triumphs". The Akkadian’s name for
Orion is Urana which
means "light of heaven".

The original spelling of Orion, Oarion, shows the Egyptian
and Akkadian roots — both denote
a God of resurrection coming
to the earth.
(God’s Voice in the Stars., Kenneth C. Fleming.,
p.105 ) Jesus is the one who was
slain, who will come as the
Prince of Light
and Glory to judge the world. The constellation
of Orion is a type of Jesus.

Isaiah 60:1-3:

Arise, shine; for thy light is come, And the glory of the
Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold the darkness
shall
cover the earth, And gross darkness upon the people:

But the LORD shall arise upon thee, And His glory shall
be seen upon thee. And the gentiles shall come
to thy light,
And kings to the brightness of thy rising.

LESS TO COME.I Promise…Con’t…

While the Giza plateau pyramids refer to Orion and allude to
Christ’s Second Coming,
the Great Pyramid of Giza is a tangible
fulfillment of prophecy in itself:

Isaiah 19:19

In that day there shall be an altar to the Lord in
the midst of Egypt, and a monument at the
border there of to the
Lord. And it shall be
for a
sign, and a witness to the Lord of Hosts in
the land of Egypt.

This passage describes the location of the great Pyramid
exactly. The Pyramid sits in the
center of Egypt and on the
border of upper
and lower Egypt. (E. Raymond Capt, The Great
Pyramid Decoded p.12 ) During the millennium, either
the Great Pyramid will either have to
be moved for this
"monument" to be set up, or,
the Great Pyramid is this
monument. If this
fact is not convincing enough of the scriptural
significance of this structure,
consider the following; When the
Hebrew
letters from Isaiah
19:19 describing the Lord’s monument
are added together, the sum
is 5,449. This is
the exact height, in inches, of the Great
Pyramid. These inches are the standard of linear
measurement encoded within the Great
Pyramid itself. (E. Raymond
Capt, The Great
Pyramid Decoded p.59) Jesus
described the cap stone or cornerstone,
which is missing from
Great Pyramid, as a
symbol of Himself:

Matt 21:42

Did you never read in the Scriptures, the stone which the
builders rejected, the same is
become the head of the corner:
this is the
Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our eyes (also
Psalm 118:22).

Paul also describes the corner stone of the Great Pyramid as
symbolizing Christ;

Eph. 2:20

Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; in
whom all the building fitly
framed together into a holy temple
in the
Lord..

In Zechariah 4:7 it is written:

He shall bring forward the cap stone amid shouts of ‘Grace,
grace, unto it..

In Bauval’s Giza / Orion connection, the star corresponding
to the Great Pyramid is
Alnitak, "the wounded one".
The greatest of
the Giza structures represents the essence of
the saving work of the Messiah. All Biblical descriptions
of the Great Pyramid typify the
Messiah. Keep in mind that the
number 5
represents "GRACE", that is, the gift of
forgiveness and eternal life through Jesus. In Scripture,
the message of grace is manifested
again and again by the number
5. (E. Raymond
Capt, The Great Pyramid Decoded, p. 58) The
Great Pyramid, without it’s corner stone, has 6
sides. With the addition of the cap stone,
or cornerstone — the
top stone of a pyramid
touching all the sides at once, the
pyramid
has finally 5 sides. The name pyramid comes from
the Coptic word pyr which means
"division" and the
word met which means "10,
or 10 divided equaling 5.56"
The number 6, "
the imperfect state of man" , is
coupled with
5 "grace", the perfection of the Messiah.
Even
the root words of the pyramid connote man and God
united by "grace".

 The typology of the Great
Pyramid, currently without the cap
stone, illustrates
beautifully the promises of
God to mankind — Jesus’ First
Advent and
redemptive work on the cross, and the Second Coming
in judgment, will be completed and the
corner stone will be on
Earth. The laying of
the corner stone on the edifice of the
Great
Pyramid in the future will symbolize the Messiah,
the Lord of all the universe having
descended to the Earth where
He will live
forever with men.

The pyramid of Cydonia has much in common with the Great
Pyramid of the Earth. Studied
more closely, the five-sided
Martian pyramid
of course has a sixth side which is
"covered"
by the five above. The word which can be
found
in the Bible for this ingenious physical representation
of truth is atonement.
(James Strong,
The New Strong’s Exhaustive
Concordance of the Bible) Just as
Jesus atoned
for the sins of man = 6, by shedding His blood
in our place, covering us with his
perfection, so the greatest
pyramid in the
n solar system atones its 6th side, the number
of man, with the covering of its 5 sides, 5=GRACE.
The same message is duplicated in the
typology of the corner
stone of Earth’s’
Great Pyramid. One day the corner stone will
cover the six sided Egyptian monument.

Further, the massive D & M Pyramid emphasizes the Mars
Sphinx face, the symbol of the
incarnation of the Word — the
orientation of the orientation of
the pyramids and face of the
Cydonia region declare "this is the one by which grace and
justification
will come".

The colossal martian pyramid also demonstrates a redundant geometry which,

according to Richard Hoagland, holds the key for understanding high level quantum

mechanics. These redundant geometrical messages encoded in the Cydonia monuments have continued
to stand up under meticulous scrutiny from the scientific world. (Richard C. Hoagland, The Monuments
of Mars, p. 355)

There is no surprise that knowledge of such magnitude would be found in a city built by the
angels of God!

Cydonia = City of Angels

To the North, North West of the Great martian pyramid, sits the "city" complex of 12
giant pyramids. There are four central structures of classic pyramidal shape surrounded by 5 larger
various shaped pyramid like constructions. Once again the Cydonia geometry refers to a prophetically
significant relationship. A line drawn connecting the exterior monuments of the Cydonia city forms a
pentagon. The whole city complex also rests on the corner of the implied Cydonia equilateral
triangle . (Ibid., Illustration. # 30)

The five large pyramids of the city complex surround four smaller pyramids. This typifies
"grace", the number 5, surrounding "creation" represented by the number 4. The
scriptural truth that grace comes only from the Messiah is demonstrated by the line of sight
orientation of the city and the martian sphinx face. Richard Hoagland calculated the orientation of
the face on Mars with respect to the city complex, noting that the layout of the Cydonia pyramids
within the city seems specifically designed for viewing the martian summer solstice. (Ibid., p. 64).
On the morning of the martian summer solstice, at some time in the very remote past, the EARTH would
rise out of the mouth of the Cydonia sphinx followed by the sun. This celestial event would have
been viewed the builders of the Cydonia monuments — the pre-rebellion angelic civilization on Mars.

Marinate on that a lil WHILE DOC..PEACE..

and Happy Holidays

Very good Nutty. I have read the information that you
presented and have those books in my library. I recommend them for everyone to read. I think that I
gave my opinion about the pyramids relating to the constellation Orion.

The readers can compare my theory with Bauval and Hancock. I think that they used the Bible
quotation about the altar at the border to refer to the Sphinx. However, if you look at a map of
Egypt, the pyramids do not sit at the border of Egypt but about 90 miles from the border. Altar does
not imply "pyramid".

There is nothing in your references that you quoted about "slaves" building pyramids. I
also find it interesting that in an earlier post you gave the
impression that the builders of the pyramids were bad people and that studying them was a waste of
time. However, the references that you bring forward seem to relate the pyramids to the second
coming of Christ. If you believe that then I’m sure that you will spend more time studying the
pyramids. That is unless you are practicing a form of "rhetorical ethic" as described by
Ausare on post #59 on "Can we have Unity amongst us?"

Slaves did not build pyramids, righteous Black Africans did. Now let’s continue our debate
about their meaning and how they relate to the trials, tribulations and soon victory of the
descendents of their builders, the Black Man and Woman in the wilderness of North America, the
stones that the builders of this world have rejected.

Jesus knew that he was ahead of his time because he studied at the Great Pyramid and realized
that the resurrection had to take place in America 2000 years later among a people that were not yet
enslaved.

I have a question. Where does plate-tec-tonics(sp) figure
into this?

Not many archeologist have sought to put the continents back together to explain some of the
other structural wonders and African like monuments found in south america and other places

It would explain why so much of the history appears to be lost.

LoveChild,

About those plates, yes it is very interesting that you can fit North and South America into the
shape of Europe and Africa. On the other side of the planet you find the Pacific Ocean and what is
called the "Ring of Fire" or the volcanic activity that circles that ocean. It is as if
something was blown out of that side of the earth and now the earth is in the process of filling in
that hole to keep its shape. The Kemetic people had "legends" referring to how the moon
was made which is very similar to the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. In those teachings
the moon was blown away from the earth about 66 trillion years ago.

Nutty,

Looking forward to your new references. I will continue to present my "theories" as

You might have something there about so-called whites changing history again. That is why it is
so important for Black people to survive and win, so that we can write our own history.

What I mean by "win" is to survive and be God’s Chosen people to serve the spiritual
needs of a fallen and mentally enslaved humanity. Humanity has been
enslaved by white supremist’s doctrine such as aliens must have built the pyramids because white
people didn’t and even today cannot build them.

Still can’t find that map of DC on the Dollar Bill…

But now I’m scared to look at it..lol

Thanks..

Nutty,

The symbols on the back of the dollar bill are found in the map of D.C., not the map of D.C. on
the dollar bill. You will just have to go out and get you a map of D.C. then go back to my web page
to see what I am talking about.

Nutty,

If you find some good maps let me know. When I was first studying the maps of D.C. back in 1995,
I tried to use the internet to get some good detailed maps. I was not successful. I even tried today
using Yahoo, I was still unsuccessful. What I had to do was go to the
local
library where I found a good area map and to AAA. They have a good map also. But if you find one on
the web, please let me know.

The Great Pyramid [#133 of 169] Posted on Mon 27 Dec ’99 (08:28 AM) by (Ankmin)

Nutty,

I looked at the view from behind the Capitol Building. You can see that it sits atop a pyramid.
However, we still need a "bird’s eye view" of the entire Mall as you would have it on a
detailed map of D.C. I have one but my web page may not be able to hold both it and the view of the
Gizeh plateau that I just posted.
Click: "The
Great Pyramid and Giza Plateau
"

This is a map of the Giza plateau over which I have superimposed a quarter circle or a quadrant.
From left to right you are going north and from top to bottom you are looking from east to west.
This makes this the northwest quadrant of a circle. The Great Pyramids sides face exactly north,
south, east and west.

Now notice the tombs in the "Western Cemetery". Put them together the way we used to do
when kids, i.e. connect the dots on the perimeter of those tombs. Now refer back to my post #103 on
this thread. This now is a question for everybody.

What does the "Western Cemetery" remind you of when taken as a whole?

Peace, Doc

The Great Pyramid [#134 of 169] Posted on Mon 27 Dec ’99
(08:37 AM) by (Ankmin)

Let me add this. The "Western Cemetery" is so designated on the map and sits due west
of the Great Pyramid (Khufu’s pyramid). Khufu’s pyramid is the large pyramid, the furthest to the
right on this map.

Nutty,

I want you to remember that I did not tell you what the "Western Cemetery" looked like.
Now suppose that you are correct, what are the historical, religious, esoteric and political
implications of there being a map of the _____ on the Gizeh (Giza) plateau put there some 5 to 6,000
years ago by Black Africans?

What is the relationship of this finding to the Masonic teachings about Hiram Abiff, the Widow’s
Son?

Nutty,

Why don’t you let the people marinate on the map of the Giza plateau before we jump into Canaan?

Ausare,

Of course, much of the Masonic stuff is held as secret. I have never been a member myself,
however I have run across some literature in the libraries. I will do a "Yahoo" search to
see what is on the internet. One book that you might look for is "The Mission of Masonry"
by Madison C. Peters. Another book whichtouches on this issue is "The New World Order" by
A. Ralh Epperson and "The Secret Teachings of All Ages" by Manly P. Hall.

Well it seems that everyone agrees with Nutty on what the Western Cemetery at Gizeh looks like.
Or do I need to get some small children in here. When ever I give lectures I can always depend on
the children to tell me exactly what they think. Grown ups are too busy running through their memory
banks and programming to figure out what "should" they say instead of what they think or
see.

The Great Pyramid [#149 of 169] Posted on Mon 27 Dec ’99 (06:04 PM) by (Ankmin)

If you look at the map of the Gizeh plateau and the superimposed quarter circle, you will notice
that I have drawn a line from the center of the Great Pyramid to the center of the circle that
encompasses all three pyramids. That line represents the radius of that circle and crosses over the
paws of the Sphinx. This is why I stated earlier that Edgar Casey was right about the "Hall of
Record" being at the paw of the Sphinx.

However, his followers are digging instead of flying. By the way, the circle that I use to show
the relationship between the pyramids is not the one hypothesized by Hancock and Bauval in their
book "The Message of the Sphinx". More
about my
circles later. Tell me in looking at
the center my diagram, do
you see somebody

Is’nt this similar to what people outside of Christianity refer to the BIBLE passages, as merly

I did not "lead" you to believe anything. You said

Do you remember the lecture from Farrakhan about Eziekiel’s wheel, doc?

The Great Pyramid [#166 of 169] Posted on Mon 27 Dec ’99 (09:44 PM) by (Ankmin)

To continue with the Gizeh plateau. There are actually 10 pyramids on the Gizeh plateau. Each is
represented by a square with an "X" in it. If you start drawing lines from the smaller
pyramids through the center of the closest large pyramid to them an interesting pattern of lines
began to cross the "Western Cemetery"/map of ____. The line running from the small pyramid
next to the second pyramid,Khafre, back across Kafre to the map made it imperative that I tried to
go to the "Battlein Seattle". I am so glad that I made it there.

The map of D.C. lays out a 200 year plan while the Gizeh plateau lays out a 6,000 year plan. The
spider spins a web to catch flies, butthe flies used the web to tie the spider up in Seattle. And
the "play" continues.

I only worry about friends and foes in real life, not
cyberspace. In real life I depend only on the "Spirit", you can call it God,
Jah,
Allah or the Ancestors. I don’t worry
about myself, I just love
to fight the "beast". I found out a long time ago that no one escapes death, so I worry
more about living than dying.

PreColumbian

Blacks Also Owned Miles of   US Pre

Blacks Also Owned Miles of  US Pre-Columbian Lands

By Paul Barton, editorial, TOMRIC Agency (Dar es Salaam), 25
May 2001 Washington D.C.

One of the saddest aspects of enslavement in the Americas, particular North America, is the fact that all forms of education was denied us and still is today. Blacks were forced to remain ignorant and told
they have no history or culture.

Well, here is the problem, most African-Americans are still void of historical knowledge particularly of their
ownership to lands right here in the U.S.

Blacks owned about one million square miles of land in the Louisiana Territories and the South Eastern/Florida
region, as well as California. In all these areas of the U.S., there were Black African-American nations before
Columbus, who were targeted for enslavement due to the Papal Edict that gave the Christian nations of Europe
the go-ahead to make slaves of all descendants of Ham found in the newly discovered lands This fact cannot be
denied. The essay on Black Civilizations of Ancient America, published as the great book; Susu Economics the
History of Pan-African Trade, Commerce, Money and Wealth, tells a reality of this.

While many of Africans? ancestors were kidnapped in Africa, many were Africans who came from West
Africa, had a number of kingdoms and empires in the Southern parts of the U.S., and who were captured, had
their lands taken and their persons sold into slavery. These Africans were direct black ancestors and their had a
continuing connection with West Africa which included trade and commerce on the very eve of the invasion of
the Europeans to the Americas.

In 1991, the U.S. returned about 68,000 square acres of land to the Washitaw Nation of Louisiana, one of the
prehistoric Black nations of the United States (See www.hotep.org). This group of Blacks is the evidence of
the Black ownership of land and the Black presence before English and Spanish/French colonization of North
America.

Many Blacks living today are descended from the pre-Columbian Black nations and it is time that issue is
included in the reparation discussion. They should locate who are the descendants of these
pre-Columbian African nations in the U.S. (perhaps the entire mixed African-American population, since most of these Black
tribes were enslaved and shipped to plantations and mixed with Blacks from Africa).

When discussing reparations, they must realize that more than the actual performance of slave labor was
involved. The taking of Blacks aboriginal lands in North America was also involved in this great trade, which
was part of a grand conspiracy by the European powers, in which they used biblical mythology to promote
their policies.

Black researchers should do the work necessary to find the documentation proving that as recently as the
1800?s, the U.S. fought with a Black nation in California called the ?Black Californians, and that that Black
nation ended up on slave plantations in the U.S., while others were sent to salt mines in Mexico.

The French and Spanish have documentation on the Black Washitaw Nation who once owned much of the
annexed Louisiana Territories. In fact, the Washitaw Nation regard the states of Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas,
Oklahoma and Mississippi as Washitaw Proper, and as of this very moment, the Washitaw Nation is recognized by nations around the world as one of the most ancient nations in the Americas (See
www.hotep.org).

According to the present leadership of the Washitaw Empire, the Wasitaw are the descendants of prehistoric
African sea farers who settled in the Mississippi Valley Region and the Southern U.S., thousands of years
Before Christ. They were boat builders, builders of pyramid mounds, Seafarers and practiced agriculture.

According to an article, www.wanoline.com (see also We Are The Washitaw, the Washitaw originally came
from Africa and were Africans. The Washitaw are still African Negritic peoples and they, like many of the
ancient Blacks who live in the Americas became victims of the Papal Edict which opened the way for the
colonialization of the New World and the taking of people into slavery and occupation of their lands.

The Washitaw build hundreds of earthen pyramid mounds all over the southern and midwestern parts of the
U.S. Some, such as the mound at Poverty Point in Louisiana is one of the most sacred sites of the
Washitaw. Skeletons found in Washitaw gravesites from the pre-Columbian period show a tall people with characteristics
similar to Africans.

It is time to get to do a thorough job on the reparation issue. What need to be done is not discussing how to
parcel out the money we may receive, but how to gain lands taken from our ancestors and how to create a
nation of independent minded people who will use their skills to rebuild the Black nation in America and return
to the glorious renaissance Blacks had right here in the U.S., Mexico and Africa before European colonialism.

Subject: African Explorers in Pre-Columbian America

Who came first, Columbus?

The Long Trail of Evidence of African Explorers in Pre-Columbian America

By Hisham Aidi

According to Malian historian and playwright Gaoussou Diawara, Africans may have
"discovered" America nearly two centuries before
Christopher
Columbus’s famous landing. In his forthcoming book, The Saga of Abubakari II… He left with 2000
Boats, Diawara describes an
African monarch who abdicated his
throne in 1311 and set off to discover whether the Atlantic Ocean, likethe vast River Niger,
"had another
bank." Diawara contends that in 1312
Abubakari II, who ruled over a vast West African empire including modern-day Mali, landed in Recife,
on
the coast of Brazil. The scholar, who heads a research
project dedicated to exploringthe history and heritage of Abubakari II, marshals
considerable
archaeological and linguistic evidence demonstrating the African presence in pre-Columbian America.

He’s not the first to do so. The thesis of an early African presence in the Americas was
prominently advanced by Guyana-born anthropologist
Ivan Van
Sertima in his 1977 book, They Came Before Columbus. Van Sertima argues that Africans reached the
Americas in two stages. The first
wave, ancient Egyptians and
Nubians, reached the Gulf of Mexico around 1200 BCE and 800 BCE, respectively, bringing with them
writing and
pyramid-building. Centuries later, around 1310 CE,
the Mande people of West Africa went to Mexico, Panama, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru and
various
Caribbean islands, according to Van Sertima. The Olmec stone heads of Mexico, which have
astonishingly African features, are among
the archaeological and
linguistic evidence Van Sertima presents. Van Sertima describes how, according to Columbus’s own
writings, the people
living on the island of Hispaniola (later
Haiti and the Dominican Republic) told him that "black-skinned people had come from the south
and
southeast trading in gold-tipped metal spears. Columbus sent
samples of these spears back to Spain to be tested, and they were found to be
identical
in their proportions of gold, silver and copper alloys to spears then being forged in African
Guinea. Columbus’ son, Ferdinand, said his
father told him that
he had seen black people north of what is now Honduras." The evidence, Van Sertima concludes,
"argues overwhelmingly
against a mere coincidence."
Indeed, the idea that Columbus was not the first person from across the ocean to
"discover" the Americas is
commonplace, and shared by
the Society of American Archaeology, which declared in 1968 that "there cannot be now any
question, but that
there were visitors to the New World from the
Old in historic or even prehistoric time before 1492."

But did they come from Africa? Unlike theories that Viking explorers from Northern Europe arrived
on the North American continent hundreds
of years before
Columbus-theories that are debated but generally treated with cautious respect-Van Sertima’s
assertions drew angry fire from
those who disagreed. A New York
Times reviewer dismissed Van Sertima as a "deluded scholar" writing "ignorant
rubbish" with "abysmal"
historical and research
methods. Students of Meso-America have also strongly disputed Van Sertima’s characterization of the
Olmec people as
African. David Grove, an expert on Olmec
civilization, notes that Van Sertima’s claims about the Olmecs’ blackness are suspect because
"the
Olmecs did not have a selection of skin tones to
choose from in making their monuments. The only stone available to them was black stone.

The source of the stone is the Tuxlas Mountains, of volcanic origin." A particularly caustic
critique, titled "Van Sertima’s Afrocentricity and the
Olmecs,"
even scoffed that "native Americans would have sacrificed and eaten the Africans if they
came."

Such attacks don’t surprise [White writer] Richard Poe, the author of Black Spark, White Fire:
Did African Explorers Civilize Ancient Europe?,
which addresses
the possibility of Africans taking transatlantic trips before Columbus. "Ivan Van Sertima is a
courageous and brilliant scholar,
who has done ground-breaking
work," says Poe. "His findings have never received the fair hearing that they deserve.
Rather than refuting his
arguments, Van Sertima’s critics
habitually resort to mean-spirited, personal attacks. The anger and indignation his theories provoke
seems to
go beyond mere scholarly disagreement." Such
fierceness, Poe says, has a lot to do with race-black scholars generally embraced Van Sertima’s

work. "Consciously or unconsciously, some of Van Sertima’s critics
may still be clinging to the 19th-century notion that seafaring is a European
monopoly,"
he says. "Seafaring is the quintessential European achievement, the single endeavor of which we
are most proud. It was seafaring
that enabled Europe to conquer
the world. White people have a deep sense of themselves as explorers.

The idea that black Africans might have beaten us to the New World threatens our sense of
ownership over the seas. Maybe it’s a bit like the
way some
black people dislike hearing white musicians do rap. A hundred years ago, it was common for scholars
to claim that peoples of
so-called ‘Aryan’ or Nordic race
possessed a peculiar combination of courage and wanderlust that made them natural sailors.
Non-Aryans were
viewed as poor sailors, even when the evidence
proved otherwise-as in the case of the Egyptians, who are known to have made long sea
voyages
to Somalia, Crete, Greece and probably beyond." The evidence, Diawara argues, can still be
found in Africa. Both Van Sertima and
Diawara say that Mali’s
griots (oral historians) tell of the African king who sent an expedition to the "Western
Ocean." His voyage is mentioned
not only in the griots’
narratives, but also in Arabic texts, including a 14th century Egyptian book by the historian al-Omari.
In an interview with
the BBC, Tiemoko Konate, one of the
researchers working with Diawara, offered other evidence of Abubakari’s landing in Recife, Brazil:
"Its
[Recife’s] other name is Purnanbuco, which we believe
is an aberration of the Mande name for the rich gold fields that accounted for much of
the
wealth of the Mali Empire, Boure Bambouk." Konate also cites tests, similar to those Van
Sertima described, showing that the gold tips of
spears found by
Columbus in the Americas may be made of originally West African gold. In an interview with Emerge
magazine, Van Sertima
argued that the Atlantic’s currents serve
as natural marine conveyer belts: "Once you enter them, you are transported (even against your
will,
even with no navigational skill) from one bank of the
ocean to the other," he said. "Thor Heyerdahl crossed the Atlantic in 1969 in a papyrus

boat like those built by Africans before the time of Christ. Hannes
Lindemann crossed the Atlantic in an African dugout in 12 days less than it
took
Amerigo Vespucci or Columbus to cross. Three currents can carry Africans to the Americas: off the
Cape Verde islands, off the
Senegambia coast, and off the
southern coast of Africa. It is at the end of these currents that we have found Africans in America
before
Columbus."

Interestingly, Diawara thinks that the story of Abubakari II, who apparently never returned to
Africa, has important lessons to offer Africans
today-particularly
African leaders in the states that used to constitute the ancient Malian empire. "Look at
what’s going on in all the remnants
of that empire, in Ivory
Coast, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea," Diawara said in a BBC interview. "Politicians are
bathing their countries in blood,
setting them on fire just so
that they can cling to power. They should take an example from Abubakari II. He was a far more
powerful man than
any of them. And he was willing to give it all
up in the name of science and discovery. That should be a lesson for everyone in Africa today."

Regards,

John

P.S. Of all of my study and interest in African history, my study of
Ancient Egypt ranks highest. The points brought forth in the article have
long been verified and cross-referenced and have become pillars in my
worldview. I am pleased to offer one source that captures so much of who
I am and what I believe. Enjoy! 😉

“NET NOTES”

There was and is wide mingling of the
blood of all races in Africa, but this
is consistent with the general thesis
that Africa is predominantly the land of
the Negroes and Negroid peoples, just as
Europe is a land of Caucasoids and Asia
of Mongoloids. We may give up entirely,
if we wish, the whole attempt to delimit
races, but we cannot, if we are sane,
divide the world into whites, yellows,
and blacks, and then call blacks white.

W.E.B. DuBois, The world and Africa:
An Inquiry into the part which Africa
has played in world history.
International Publishers, New York, 1961, p. 119

We would like to inform our readers that a remarkable discovery has taken
place in the “Queen’s Chamber” of the Great Pyramid! According to a report
published on the Internet on December 1, 1996, by Robert Hancock, British
author of the best selling books, “The Sign and the Seal” and
“Fingerprints of the Gods,” the Gantenbrink experiment1 was conducted in
the Great Pyramid on October 20, 1996. This project entailed an
exploration of the narrow passage leading up from the southern shaft of
the “Queen’s Chamber” in the Great Pyramid. For several years,
Egyptologists have known that a door exists at the upper end of the
“Queen’s Chamber,” but until October 20, no one had penetrated it. Here,
then, are the words of Hancock regarding the events of that date:

“At the end of the ascending passage, 8
inches square, leading from inside the
Great Pyramid’s ‘Queen’s Chamber’ is a
small ‘door’ with two metal ‘handles.’
On October 20, 1996, Dr. El Bas and two
assistants sent a fiber optic camera lens
through a flaw in this door. What was
allegedly found was a 2 meter by 1.5
meter chamber inside of which was a statue.
The statue seemed to be in the image of
a black male, holding an ankh in one hand. On the opposing wall of this
chamber was
a round shaped passage leading out.”2
(Emphasis added)

While citing three reliable sources for this report, Hancock nonetheless
cautions that it has not been completely verified. Less restrained is
American author and astronomer Richard Hoagland. Speaking on Art Bell’s
early morning nationwide talk show (KABC radio) on December 20, 1996,
Hoagland devoted a considerable amount of time to a discussion of the same
report and defended it with confidence. He also noted that, after the
information leaked out, one of the sources was immediately fired and
subjected to other severe discipline.3

We cite this report because, if true, it is an example, among many, of a
revolutionary discovery made in secrecy by a group of specialists who may
or may not reveal the total truth about what they have found. Fortunately,
because a number of laymen, academicians and scientists have been closely
following developments on the Giza plateau for several years, it was
difficult for officials to suppress this experiment. Nevertheless, as of
this writing no major media have published information on this discovery.

As Afrocentrists we stand in awe wondering how many other statues of Black
males, and females for that matter, have been found in Egyptian
archaeological sites and then hidden from public view?

This recent discovery serves as a perfect segue into our topic for
February, Black History Month: “The ‘racial’ origin of the Ancient
Egyptian people.” As we noted in the December issue of MAAT, every major
newspaper and magazine in the nation and much of academe have attacked
Africentrists as pseudoscientists. Especially scorned have been those
scholars who claim that the Ancient Egyptians were Black Africans.

Since the overwhelming majority of the critics of Africentrism have
engaged in nothing more than shadow boxing (never providing their
opponents with an opportunity to respond to their assaults), we think a
true debate is long overdue. Therefore this issue of MAAT has been
exclusively devoted to a reprinting of an article written by the late
Senegalese nuclear physicist, anthropologist, Egyptologist, linguist and
historian, Cheikh Anta Diop. Entitled “Origin of The Ancient Egyptians,”
the article was first published in UNESCO, General History of Africa, vol
2, Ancient Civilizations of Africa. Edited/translated by G. Mokhtar.
Copyright (c) 1980 UNESCO.4 This article provides a comprehensive summary
of the Africentric position on the race of the Ancient Egyptians.

While the MAAT newsletter invites a full spectrum of responses to this
subject, we are nevertheless setting two ground rules as fundamental
requirements for a serious, civil and objective discussion or debate:

It must be recognized that Egypt is and always
has been on the continent of Africa. References
to this country as a part of the Middle East,
Near East, Mediterranean or even the Fertile
Crescent, to the exclusion of its location in
Africa, is a blatant, racist distortion.

The color black cannot be defined as white.
The only reasonable definition of the Black
race is the following provided by Diop:
“There are two variants of the black race:
(a) straight-haired, represented in Asia by
the Dravidians and in Africa by the Nubians
and the Tubbou or Tedda, all three with jet-
black skins; (b) the kinky-haired blacks of
the Equatorial regions.”5
We flatly reject the specious reasoning of the early Egyptologist J. J.
Champollion-Figeac and modern anthropologists, who insist that “[t]he two
physical traits of black skin and kinky hair are not enough to stamp a
race as negro. . .”6 They then proceed to transfer some of the blackest
people in the world to the white race, if the blacks in question are the
progenitors of an advanced civilization. If black skin is insufficient to
qualify one for inclusion in the black race, then, what on earth is!?

The brilliant African American historian W.E.B. DuBois, recognized the
contempt that the Western academic establishment has had for Black people
and addressed it nearly 60 years ago:

“The Negro has long been the clown of history;
the football of anthropology; and the slave of
industry. I am trying to show here why these
attitudes can no longer be maintained. I
realize that the truth of history lies not in
the mouths of partisans but rather in the calm
Science that sits between. Her cause I seek to
serve, and wherever I fail, I am at least paying
Truth the respect of earnest effort.”7

We welcome you to join us as truth seekers.

ORIGIN OF THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS

by Cheikh Anta Diop

The general acceptance, as a sequel to the work of Professor [Louis B.]
Leakey, of the hypothesis of mankind’s monogenetic and African origin,
makes it possible to pose the question of the peopling of Egypt and even
of the world in completely new terms. More than 150,000 years ago, beings
morphologically identical with the man of today were living in the region
of the great lakes at the sources of the Nile and nowhere else. This
notion, and others which it would take too long to recapitulate here, form
the substance of the last report presented by the late Dr. Leakey at the
Seventh Pan-African Congress of Pre-History in Addis Ababa in 1971.1 It
means that the whole human race had its origin, just as the ancients had
guessed, at the foot of the mountains of the Moon. Against all
expectations and in defiance of recent hypotheses it was from this place
that men moved out to people the rest of the world. From this two facts of
capital importance result:

(a) of necessity the earliest men were ethnically
homogeneous and negroid. Gloger’s law, which
would also appear to be applicable to human
beings, lays it down that warm-blooded
animals evolving in a warm humid climate will
secrete a black pigment (eumelanin).2 Hence
if mankind originated in the tropics around
the latitude of the great lakes, he was bound
to have brown pigmentation from the start and
and it was by differentiation in other climates
that the original stock later split into
different races;

(b) there were only two routes available by which
these early men could move out to people
the other continents, namely, the Sahara and
the Nile valley. It is the latter region which
will be discussed here.

From the Upper Palaeolithic to the dynastic epoch, the whole of the
river’s basin was taken over progressively by these negroid peoples.

Evidence of Physical Anthropology on the Race of the Ancient Egyptians

It might have been thought that, working on physiological evidence, the
findings of the anthropologists would dissipate all doubts by providing
reliable and definitive truths. This is by no means so: the arbitrary
nature of the criteria used, to go no farther, as well as abolishing any
notion of a conclusion acceptable without qualification, introduces so
much scientific hair-splitting that there are times when one wonders
whether the solution of the problem would not have been nearer if we had
not had the ill luck to approach it from this angle.

Nevertheless, although the conclusions of these anthropological studies
stop short of the full truth, they still speak unanimously of the
existence of a negro race from the most distant ages of prehistory down to
the dynastic period. It is not possible in this paper to cite all these
conclusions: they will be found summarized in Chapter X of Dr. Emile
Massoulard’s Histoire et protohistoire d’ Egypt (Institut d’Ethnologix,
Paris, 1949). We shall quote selected items only.

Miss Fawcett considers that the Negadah
skulls form a sufficiently homogeneous
collection to warrant the assumption of
a Negadah race. In the total height of
the skull, the auricular height, the
length and breadth of the face, nasal
length, cephalic index and facial index
this race would seem to approximate to
the negro; in nasal breadth, height of
orbit, length of palate and nasal index
it would seem closed to the Germanic
peoples; accordingly the Pre-Dynastic
Negadians are likely to have resembled
the negroes in certain of their
characteristics and the white race in
others.

It is worth noting that the nasal indices of Ethiopians and Dravidians
would seem to approximate them to the Germanic peoples, though both are
black races.

These measurements, which would leave an open choice between the two
extremes represented by the negro and the Germanic races, give an idea of
the elasticity of the criteria employed. A sample follows:

An attempt was made by Thompson and
Randall MacIver to determine more
precisely the importance of the negroid
element in the series of skulls from
El’Amrah, Abydos and Hou. They divided
them into three groups: (1) negroid
skulls (those with a facial index below
54 and a nasal index above 50, i.e.
Short broad face and broad nose);
(2) non-negroid skulls (facial index
above 54 and nasal index below 50, long
narrow face and narrow nose), (3) inter-
mediate skulls (assignable to one of
the two previous groups on the basis of
either the facial index or on the
evidence of the nasal index, plus
individuals marginal to either group).
The proportion of negroids would seem to
have 24% of men and 19% of women in the
early Pre-Dynastic and 25% and 28%
respectively in the late Pre-Dynastic.

Kieth has disputed the value of the
criterion selected by Thompson and
Randall MacIver to distinguish the
negroid from the non-negroid skulls.
His opinion is that if the same
criteria were applied to the study of
any series of contemporary English
skulls, the sample would be found to
contain approximately 30% of negroid
types. (pp. 420-1)

The converse of Kieth’s proposition could also be asserted, namely, that
if the criterion were applied to the 140 million negroes now alive in
black Africa a minimum of 100 million negroes would emerge whitewashed.

It may also be remarked that the distinction between negroid, non-negroid
and intermediary is unclear; the fact is that ‘non-negroid’ does not mean
of white race and ‘intermediary’ still less so.

‘Falkenburger reopened the anthropological study of the Egyptian
population in a recent work in which he discusses 1,787 male skulls
varying in date from the old, Pre-Dynastic to our own day. He
distinguishes four main groups’ (p. 421). The sorting of the predynastic
skulls into these four groups gives the following results for the whole
predynastic period: “36% negroid, 33% Mediterranean, 11% Cro-Magnoid and
20% of individuals not falling in any of these groups but approximating
either to the Cro-Magnoid or to the negroid’. The proportion of negroids
is definitely higher than that suggested by Thomson and Randall MacIver,
though Kieth considers the latter too high.

‘Do Falkenburger’s figures reflect the reality? It is not our task to
decide this. If they are accurate, the Pre-Dynastic population far from
representing a pure bred race, as Elliott-Smith has said, comprised at
least three distinct racial elements – over a third of negroids, a third
of Mediterraneans, a tenth of Cro-Magnoids and a fifth of individuals
crossbred – to varying degrees’ (p. 422).

The point about all these conclusions is that despite their discrepancies
the degree to which they converge proves that the basis of the Egyptian
population was negro in the Pre-Dynastic epoch. Thus they are all
incompatible with the theories that the negro element only infiltrated
into Egypt at a late stage. Far otherwise, the facts prove that it was
preponderant from the beginning to the end of Egyptian history,
particularly when we note once more that ‘Mediterranean’ is not a synonym
for ‘white’, Elliott-Smith’s ‘brown’ or Mediterranean race being nearer to
the mark’. ‘Elliott Smith classes these Proto-Egyptians as a branch of
what he calls the brown race”.’ The term ‘brown’ in this context refers to
skin colour and is simply a euphemism for negro.3 it is thus clear that it
was the whole of the Egyptian population which was negro, barring an
infiltration of white nomads in the proto-dynastic epoch

In Petrie’s study of the Egyptian race we are introduced to a possible
classification element in great abundance which cannot fail to surprise
the reader.

Petrie . . . published a study of the races
of Egypt in the Pre-Dynastic and Proto-
Dynastic periods working only on portrayals
of them. Apart from the steatopygian race,
he distinguishes six separate types: an
aquiline type representative of a white-
skinned Libyan race; a ‘plaited beard’ type
belonging to an invading race coming perhaps
from the shores of the Red Sea, a ‘sharp-nosed’
type almost certainly from the Arabian Desert:
a ’tilted-nose’ type from Middle Egypt; a
‘jutting beard’ type from Lower Egypt; and a
‘narrow-nose’ type from Upper Egypt. Going
on the images, there would thus have been
seven different racial types in Egypt during
the epochs we are considering. In the pages
which follow we shall see that study of the
skeletons seems to provide little authority
for these conclusions. (p.391)

The above mode of classification gives an idea of the arbitrary nature of
the criteria used to define the Egyptian races. Be that as it may, it is
clear that anthropology is far from having established the existence of a
white Egyptian race and would indeed tend rather to suggest the opposite.

Nevertheless, in current textbooks the question is suppressed: in most
cases it is simply and flatly asserted that the Egyptians were white and
the honest layman is left with the impression that any such assertion must
necessarily have a prior basis of solid research. But there is no such
basis, as this chapter has shown. And so generation after generation has
been misled. Many authorities skate around the difficulty today by
speaking of red-skinned and black-skinned whites without their sense of
common logic being in the least upset. ‘The Greeks call Africa “Libya”, a
misnomer au initio since Africa contains many other peoples besides the
so-called Libyans, who belong among the whites of the northern or
Mediterranean periphery and hence are many steps removed from the brown
(or red) skinned whites (Egyptians).’4

In a textbook intended for the middle secondary school we find the
following sentence: ‘A Black is distinguished less by the colour of his
skin (for there are black-skinned “whites”) than by his features: thick
lips, flattened nose . . .’5 It is only through these twistings of the
basic definitions that it has been possible to bleach the Egyptian race.

It is worthwhile calling to mind the exaggerations of the theorists of
anthropo-sociology in the last century and the beginnings of the present
one whose minute physiognomical analyses discovered racial stratifications
even in Europe, and particularly in France, when in fact there was really
a single and by now practically homogeneous people.6 Today Occidentals who
value their national cohesion are careful to avoid examining their own
societies on so divisive a hypothesis, but continue unthinkingly to apply
the old methods to the non-European societies.

Human Images of the Protohistoric Period: Their Anthropological Value

The study of human images made by Flinders Petrie on another plane shows
that the ethnic type was black: according to Petrie these people were the
Anu whose name, known to us since the protohistoric epoch, is always
‘written’ with three pillars on the few inscriptions extant from the end
of the fourth millennium before our era. The natives of the country are
always represented with unmistakable chiefly emblems for which one looks
in vain among the infrequent portrayals of other races, who are all shown
as servile foreign elements having reached the valley by infiltration (cf.
Tera Neter7 and the Scorpion king whom Petrie groups together; ‘The
Scorpion King . . . belonged to the preceding race of Anu, moreover he
worshipped Min and Set.’).8

As we shall see later Min, like the chief gods of Egypt, was called by the
tradition of Egypt itself ‘the great negro’.

After a glance at the various foreign types of humanity who disputed the
valley with the indigenous blacks, Petrie describes the latter, the Anu,
in the following terms: Besides these types, belonging to the North and
East, there is the aboriginal race of the Anu, or Annu, people (written
with three pillars) who became a part of the historic inhabitants. The
subject ramifies too doubtfully if we include all single pillar names, but
looking for the Annu written, with the three pillars, we find that they
occupied southern Egypt and Nubia, and the name is also applied in Sinai
and Libya. As to the southern Egyptians, we have the most essential
document, one portrait of a chief, Tera Neter, roughly modelled in relief
in green glazed faience, found in the early temple at Abydos. Preceding
his name his address is given on this earliest of visiting cards, ‘Palace
of the Anu in Hemen city, Tera Neter’. Hemen was the name of the god of
Tuphium, Erment, opposite to it, was the palace of Annu of the south, Annu
Menti. The next place in the south is Aunti (Gefeleyn), and beyond that
Aunyt-Seni (Esneh).”

Amelineau lists in geographical order the fortified towns built along the
length of the Nile valley by the Annu blacks.

[Hieroglyphics] =Ant=(Esneh)

[Hieroglyphics] =An =the southern ‘On’
(now Hermonthis)

[Hieroglyphics] =Denderah, the traditional
birthplace of Isis

[Hieroglyphics] = A town also called ‘On’ in the
name of Tinis

[Hieroglyphics] =The town called the northern
‘On’, the renowned city of
Heliopolis

The common ancestor of the Annu settled along the Nile was Ani or An, a
name determined by the word [hieroglyphics] (khet) and which, dating from
the earliest versions of the “Book of the Dead” onwards, is given to the
god Orisis.

The wife of [hieroglyphics] the god Ani is the goddess Anet
[hieroglyphics] who is also his sister, just as Isis is the sister of
Osiris.

The identity of the god An with Osiris has been demonstrated by Pleyte;10
we should, indeed recall that is also surnamed by (?) the Anou; ‘Osiris
Ani’. The god Anu is represented alternately by the symbol [hieroglyphics]
and the symbol [hieroglyphics]. Are the Aunak tribes now inhabiting the
upper Nile related to the ancient Annu? Future research will provide the
answer to this question.

Petrie thinks it possible to make a distinction between the predynastic
people represented by Tera Neter and the Scorpion King (who is himself a
Pharaoh even at that date as his head-dress shows) and a dynastic people
worshipping the falcion and probably represented by the Pharaoh’s
Narmer,14 Khasekhem, Sanekhei and Zoser.12 By reference to the faces
reproduced in the figure it is easily perceived that there is no ethnic
difference between the two lots, and both belong to the black race.

The mural in tomb SD 63 (Sequence Date 63) of Hierakonopolis shows the
native-born blacks subjugating the foreign intruders into the valley if we
accept Petrie’s interpretation: ‘Below is the black ship at Hierakonpolis
belonging to the black men who are shown as conquering the red men.’13

The Gebel-el-Arak knife haft shows similar scenes: ‘There are also combats
of black men overcoming red men.’13 However, the archaeological value of
this object, which was not found in situ but in the possession of a
merchant, is less than that of the preceding items.

What the above shows is that the images of men of the protohistoric and
even of the dynastic period in no way square with the idea of the Egyptian
race popular with Western anthropologists. Wherever the autochthonous
racial type is represented with any degree of clearness, it is evidently
negroid. Nowhere are the Indo-European and Semitic elements shown even as
ordinary freeman serving a local chief, but invariably as conquered
foreigners. The rare portrayals found are always shown with the
distinctive marks of captivity, hands tied behind the back or strained
over the shoulders.14 A protodynastic figurine represents an Indo-European
prisoner with a long plait on his knees, with his hands bound tight to his
body. The characteristics of the object itself show that it was intended
as the foot of a piece of furniture and represented a conquered race.15
Often the portrayal is deliberately grotesque as with other proto-dynastic
figures showing individuals with their hair plaited in what Petrie calls
pigtails.16

In the tomb of King Ka (first dynasty) at Abydos, Petrie found a plaque
showing an Indo-European captive in chains with his hands behind his
back.17 Elliott-Smith considers that the individual represented is a
Semite. The dynastic epoch has also yielded the documents illustrated in
Pls 1.9. and 1.14 showing Indo-European and Semitic prisoners. In
contrast, the typically negroid features of the pharaohs (Narmer, first
dynasty, the actual founder of the Pharaonic line; Zoser, third dynasty,
by whose time all the technological elements of the Egyptian civilization
were already in evidence; Cheops, the builder of the Great Pyramid, a
Cameroon type,18 Menthuhotep, founder of the eleventh dynasty, very
black,19 Sesostris 1; Queen Ahmosis Nefertari; and Amenhophis I) show that
all classes of Egyptian society belong to the same black race.

Pls 1.15 and 1.16, showing the Indo-European and Semitic types, have been
included deliberately to contrast them with the quite dissimilar
physiognomies of the black pharaohs and to demonstrate clearly that there
is no trace of either of the first two types in the whole line of Pharaohs
if we exclude the foreign Libyan and Ptolemaic dynasties.

It is usual to contrast the negresses on the tomb of Horemheb with the
Egyptian type also shown. This contrast is surely a false one; it is
social and not ethnic and there is as much difference between an
aristocratic Senegalese lady from Dakar and those antique African peasant
women with their horny hands and splay feet as between the latter and an
Egyptian lady of the cities of antiquity.

There are two variants of the black race: (a) straight-haired, represented
in Asia by the Dravidians and in Africa by the Nubians and the Tubbou or
Tedda, all three with jet-black skins; (b) the kinky-haired blacks of the
Equatorial regions. Both types entered into the composition of the
Egyptian population.

Melanin Dosage Test

In practice it is possible to determine directly the skin colour and hence
the ethnic affiliations of the ancient Egyptians by microscopic analysis
in the laboratory; I doubt if the sagacity of the researchers who have
studied the question has overlooked the possibility.

Melanin (eumelanin), the chemical body responsible for skin pigmentation,
is, broadly speaking, insoluble and is preserved for millions of years in
the skins of fossil animals.20 There is thus all the more reason for it to
be readily recoverable in the skins of Egyptian mummies, despite a
tenacious legend that the skin of mummies, tainted by the embalming
material, is no longer susceptible of any analysis.21 Although the
epidermis is the main site of the melanin, the melanocytes penetrating the
derm at the boundary between it and the epidermis, even where the latter
has mostly been destroyed by the embalming materials, show a melanin level
which is non-existent in the white-skinned races. The samples I myself
analyzed were taken in the physical anthropology laboratory of the Mus’ee
de l’Homme in Paris off the mummies from the Marietta excavations in
Egypt.22 The same method is perfectly suitable for use on the royal
mummies of Thutmoses III, Seti I and Ramses II in the Cairo Museum, which
are in an excel state of preservation. For two years past I have been
vainly begging the curator of the Cairo Museum for similar samples to
analyze. No more than a few square millimetres of skin would be required
to mount a specimen, the preparations being a few um in thickness and
lightened with ethyl benzoate. They can be studied by natural light or
with ultra-violet lighting which renders the melanin grains fluorescent.

Either way let us simply say that the evaluation of melanin level by
microscopic examination is a laboratory method which enables us to
classify the ancient Egyptians unquestionably among the black races.

Osteological Measurements

Among the criteria accepted in physical anthropology for classifying
races, the osteological measurements are perhaps the least misleading (in
contrast to craniometry) for distinguishing a black man from a white man.
By this criterion, also, the Egyptians belong among the black races. This
study was made by the distinguished German savant Lepsius at the end of
the nineteenth century and his conclusions remain valid; subsequent
methodological progress in the domain of physical anthropology in no way
undermines what is called the ‘Lepsius canon’ which, in round figures,
gives the bodily proportions of the ideal Egyptian, short-armed and of
negroid or negrito physical type.23

Blood Groups

It is a notable fact that even today Egyptians, particularly in Upper
Egypt, belong to the same Group B as the populations of western Africa on
the Atlantic seaboard and not the A2 group characteristic of the white
race prior to any crossbreeding.24 It would be interesting to study the
extent of Group A2 distribution in Egyptian mummies, which present-day
techniques make possible.

The Egyptian Race According to the Classical Authors of Antiquity

To the Greek and Latin writers contemporary with the ancient Egyptians the
latter’s physical classification posed no problems: the Egyptians were
negroes, thick-lipped, kinky-haired and thin-legged; the unanimity of the
author’s evidence on a physical fact as salient as a people’s race will be
difficult to minimize or pass over. Some of the following evidence drives
home the point.

(a) Herodotus, ‘the father of history’, -480(?) to -425. With regard to
the origins of the Colchians25 he writes:

it is in fact manifest that the Colchidians are
Egyptian by race … several Egyptians told me
that in their opinion the Colchidians were
descended from soldiers of Sesostris. I had
conjectured as much myself from two pointers,
firstly because they have black skins and
kinky hair (to tell the truth this proves
nothing for other peoples have them too) and
secondly, and more reliably for the reason that
alone among mankind the Egyptians and the
Ethiopians have practiced circumcision since
time immemorial. The Phoenicians and Syrians
of Palestine themselves admit that they learnt
the practice from the Egyptians while the
Syrians in the river Thermodon and Pathenios
region and their neighbors the Macrons say
they learnt it recently from the Colchidians.
These are the only races which practice
circumcision and it is observable that they do
it in the same way as the Egyptians. As
between the Egyptians themselves and the
Ethiopians I could not say which taught the
other the practice for among them it is
quite clearly a custom of great antiquity.
As to the custom having been learnt through
their Egyptian connections, a further strong
proof to my mind is that all those Phoenicians
trading to Greece cease to treat the pudenda
after the Egyptian manner and do not subject
their offspring to circumcision.26

Herodotus reverts several times to the negroid character of the Egyptians
and each time uses it as a fact of observation to argue more or less
complex theses. Thus to prove that the Greek oracle at Dondona in Epirus
was of Egyptian origin, one of his arguments is the following: ‘. . . and
when they add that the dove was black they give us to understand that the
woman was Egyptian.’27 The doves in question – actually there were two
according to the text – symbolize two Egyptian women who are said to have
BEEN carried off from the Egyptian Thebes to found the oracles in Greece
at Dodona and in Libya (Oasis of Jupiter Amon) respectively. Herodotus did
not share the opinion of Anaxagoras that the melting of the snows on the
mountains of Ethiopia was the source of the Nile floods.28 He relied on
the fact that it neither rains or snows in Ethiopia ‘and the heat there
turns men black’.29

(b) Aristotle, -389 to -332, scientist, philosopher and tutor of Alexander
the Great.

In one of his minor works, Aristotle attempts, with unexpected naivete’,
to establish a correlation between the physical and moral natures of
living beings and leaves us evidence on the Egyptian-Ethiopian race which
confirms what Herodotus says. According to him, ‘Those who are too black
are cowards, like for instance, the Egyptians and Ethiopians. But those
who are excessively white are also cowards as we can see from the example
of women, the complexion of courage is between the two.’30

(c) Lucian, Greek writer, +125(?) to +190.

The evidence of Lucian is as explicit as that of the two previous writers.
He introduces two Greeks, Lycinus and Timolaus, who start a conversation.

Lycinus (describing a young Egyptian):
‘This boy is not merely black; he has
thick lips and his legs are too thin. . .
his hair worn in a plait behind shows
that he is not a freeman.’

Timolaus: ‘But that is a sign of really
distinguished birth in Egypt, Lycinus.
All freeborn children plait their hair
until they reach manhood. It is the
exact opposite of the custom of our ances-
tors who thought it seemly for old men to
secure their hair with a gold brooch to
keep it in place.’31

(d) Apollodorus, first century before our
era, Greek philosopher.
‘Aegyptos conquered the country of the black-
footed ones and called it Egypt after himself.’32

(e) Aeschylus, -525(?) to -456, tragic poet and
creator of Greek tragedy.
In The Suppliants, Danaos, fleeing with his daughters, the Danaids, and
pursued by his brother Aegyptos with his sons, the Aegyptiads, who seek to
wed their cousins by force, climbs a hillock, looks out to sea and
describes the Aegyptiads at the oars afar off in these terms: ‘I can see
the crew with their black limbs and white tunics.’33

A similar description of the Egyptian type of man recurs a few lines later
in verse 745.

(f) Achilles Tatius of Alexandria.

He compares the herdsmen of the Delta to the Ethiopians and explains that
they are blackish, like half-castes.

(g) Strabo, -58 to about +25.

Strabo visited Egypt and almost all the countries of the Roman empire. He
concurs in the theory that the Egyptians and the Colchoi are of the same
race but holds that the migrations to Ethiopia and Colchoi had been from
Egypt only

‘Egyptians settled in Ethiopia and in Colchoi.’34 There is no doubt
whatever as to Strabo’s notion of the Egyptian’s race for he seeks
elsewhere to explain why the Egyptians are darker than the Hindus, a
circumstance which would permit the refutation, if needed, of any attempt
at confusing ‘the Hindu and Egyptian races’.

(h) Diodorus of Sicily, about -63 to +14, Greek historian and contemporary
of Caesar Augustus.

According to Diodorus it was probably Ethiopia which colonized Egypt (in
the Athenian sense of the term, signifying that, with overpopulation, a
proportion of the people emigrate to new territory).

The Ethiopians say that the Egyptians
`are one of their colonies,35 which was
led into Egypt by Osiris. They claim that
at the beginning of the world Egypt was
simply a sea but that the Nile, carrying
down vast quantities of loam from Ethiopia
in its flood waters, finally filled it in
and made it part of the continent. . . They
add that the Egyptians have received from
them, as from authors and their ancestors,
the greater part of their laws.36

(i) Diogenes Laertius.

He wrote the following about Zeno, founder of the stoic School (-333 to
-261): ‘Zeno son of Mnaseas or Demeas was a native of Citium in Cyprus, a
Greek city which has taken in some Phoenician colonists.’ In his Lives,
Timotheus of Athens describes Zeno as having a twisted neck. Apollonius of
Tyre says of him that he was gaunt, very tall and black, hence the fact
that, according to Chrysippus in the First Book of his Proverbs, certain
people called him an Egyptian vine-shoot.37

(j) Ammianus Marcellinus, about +33 to +100, Latin historian and friend of
the Emperor Julian.

With him we reach the sunset of the Roman empire and the end of classical
antiquity. There are about nine centuries between the birth of Aeschylus
and Herodotus and the death of Ammianus Marcellinus, nine centuries during
which the Egyptians, amid a sea of white races, steadily crossbred. It can
be said without exaggeration that in Egypt one household in ten included a
white Asiatic or Indo-European slave.39

It is remarkable that, despite its intensity, all this crossbreeding
should not have succeeded in upsetting the racial constants. Indeed
Ammianus Marcellinus writes: “. . .the men of Egypt are mostly brown and
black with a skinny and desiccated look.”39 He also confirms the evidence
already cited about the Colchoi: ‘Beyond these lands are the heartlands of
the Camaritae40 and the Phasis with its swifter stream borders the country
of the Colchoi, an ancient race of Egyptian origin.’41

This cursory review of the evidence of the ancient Graeco-Latin writers on
the Egyptians’ race shows that the extent of agreement between them is
impressive and is an objective fact difficult to minimize or conceal, the
two alternatives between which present-day Egyptology constantly
oscillates.

An exception is the evidence of an honest savant. Volney, who travelled in
Egypt between +1783 and +1785, i.e. at the peak period of negro slavery,
and made the following observations on the true Egyptian race, the same
which produced the Pharaohs, namely the Copts:

All of them are puffy-faced, heavy eyed and
thick-lipped, in a word, real mulatto faces.
I was tempted to attribute this to the climate
until, on visiting the Sphinx, the look of it
gave me the clue to the egnima. Beholding
that head characteristically Negro in all
its features, I recalled the well-known passage
of Herodotus which reads: ‘For my part I
consider the Colchoi are a colony of the Egyptians

because, like them, they are black skinned
and kinky-haired.’ In other words the
ancient Egyptians were true negroes of the same
stock as all the autochthonous peoples of Africa
and from that datum one sees how their race,
after some centuries of mixing with the blood
of Romans and Greeks, must have lost the full
blackness of its original colour but retained
the impress of its original mould. It is even
possible to apply this observation very widely
and posit in principle that physiognomy is a
kind of record usable in many cases for disputing
or elucidating the evidence of history on the
origins of the peoples . . .

After illustrating this proposition citing the case of the Normans, who
900 years after the conquest of Normandy still look like Danes, Volney
adds:

but reverting to Egypt, its contributions
to history afford many subjects for philosophic reflection. What a subject
for meditation is
the present-day barbarity and ignorance of the
Copts who were considered, born of the alliance
of the deep genius of the Egyptians and the
brilliance of the Greeks, that this race of
blacks who nowadays are slaves and the objects
of our scorn is the very one to which we owe our
arts, our sciences, and even the use of spoken word;
and finally recollect that it is in the midst of the peoples claiming to
be the greatest friends of liberty and humanity that the most barbarous of
enslavements
has been sanctioned and the question raised whether

black men have brains of the same quality as those of white men!42

To this testimony of Volney, Champollion-Figeac, brother of Champollion
the Younger, was to reply in the following terms: ‘The two physical traits
of black skin and kinky hair are not enough to stamp a race as negro and
Volney’s conclusion as to the negro origin of the ancient population of
Egypt is glaringly forced and inadmissible.’43

Being black from head to foot and having kinky hair is not enough to make
a man a negro! This shows us the kind of specious argumentation to which
Egyptology has had to resort since its birth as a science. Some scholars
maintain that Volney was seeking to shift the discussion to a philisophic
plane. But we have only to re-read Volney: he is simply drawing the
inferences from crude material facts forcing themselves on his eyes and
his conscience as proofs.

The Egyptians as They Saw Themselves

It is no waste of time to get the views of those principally concerned.
How did the ancient Egyptians see themselves? Into which ethnic category
did they put themselves? What did they call themselves? The language and
literature left to us by the Egyptians of the Pharaonic epoch supply
explicit answers to these questions which the scholars cannot refrain from
minimizing, twisting or ‘interpreting.’

The Egyptians had only one term to designate themselves:
[hieroglyphics]=kmt=the negroes (literally).44 This is the strongest term
existing in the Pharaonic tongue to indicate blackness; it is accordingly
written with a hieroglyph representing a length of wood charred at the end
and not crocodile scales.45 This word is the etymological origin of the
well-known root Kamit which has proliferated in modern anthropological
literature. The biblical root kam is probably derived from it and it has
therefore been necessary to distort the facts to enable this root today to
mean ‘white’ in Egyptological terms whereas, in the Pharaonic mother
tongue which gave it birth, it meant ‘coal black.’

In the Egyptian language, a word of assembly is formed from an adjective
or a noun by putting it in the feminine singular. ‘kmt’ from the adjective
[hieroglyphics] =km=black; it therefore means strictly negroes or at the
very least black men. The term is a collective noun which thus described
the whole people of Pharaonic Egypt as a black people.

In other words, on the purely grammatical plane, if one wishes to indicate
negroes in the Pharaonic tongue, one cannot use any other word than the
very one which the Egyptians used of themselves. Furthermore, the language
offers us another term, [hieroglyphics] kmtjw=the negroes, the black men
(literally)=the Egyptians, as opposed to ‘foreigners’ which comes from the
same root km and which the Egyptians also used to describe themselves as a
people as distinguished from all foreign peoples.46 These are the only
adjectives of nationality used by the Egyptians to designate themselves
and both mean ‘negro’ or ‘black’ in the Pharonic language. Scholars hardly
ever mention them or when they do it is to translate them by euphemisms
such as the ‘Egyptians’ while remaining completely silent about their
etymological sense.47 They prefer the expression [hieroglyphics] Rmt
kmt=the men of the country of the black men or the men of the black
country.

In Egyptian, words are normally followed by a determinative which
indicates their exact sense, and for this particuar expression
Egyptologists suggest that [heiroglyphics] km=black and that the colour
qualifies the determinative which follows it and which signifies
‘country’. Accordingly, they claim, the translation should be ‘the black
earth’ from the colour of the loam, or the ‘black country’, and not ‘the
country of the black men’ as we should be inclined to render it today with
black Africa and white Africa in mind. Perhaps so, but if we apply this
rule rigorously to [hieroglyphics] =kmit, we are forced to ‘concede that
here the adjective “black” qualifies the determinative which signifies the
whole people of Egypt shown by the two symbols for “man” and “woman” and
the three strokes below them which indicate the plural’. Thus, if it is
possible to voice a doubt as regards the expression [hieroglyphics] =Kme,
it is not possible to do so in the case of the two adjectives of
nationality [hieroglyphics] kmt and kmtjw unless one is picking one’s
arguments completely at random.

It is a remarkable circumstance that the ancient Egyptians should never
have had the idea of applying these qualificatives to the Nubians and
other populations of Africa to distinguish them from themselves; any more
than a Roman at the apogee of the empire could use a ‘colour’ adjective to
distinguish himself from the Germani on the other bank of the Danube, of
the same stock but still in the prehistoric age of development.

In either case both sides were of the same world in terms of physical
anthropology, and accordingly the distinguishing terms used related to
level of civilization or moral sense. For the civilized Romans, the
Germans, of the same stock, were barbarians. The Egyptians used the
expression [hieroglyphics] =na-has to designate the Nubians; and nahas48
is the name of a people, with no colour connotation in Egyptian. it is a
deliberate mistranslation to render it as negro as is done in almost all
present-day publications.

The Divine Epithets

Finally, black or negro is the divine epithet invariably

used for the chief beneficent gods of Egypt, whereas all the malevolent
spirits are qualified as desret=red; we also know that to Africans this
form applies to the white nations; it is practically certain that this
held good for Egypt too but I want in this chapter to keep to the least
debatable facts.

The surnames of the gods are these:

[hieroglyphics] =kmwr=the ‘Great Negro’ for Osiris49

[hieroglyphics] =km=the black + the name of the god50

[hieroglyphics] =kmt=the black + the name of the goddess51

The km (black) [hieroglyphics] qualificative is applied to Hathor, Apis,
Min, Thoth, etc52 [hieroglyphics] set kmt=the black woman=Isis53 On the
other hand ‘seth’, the sterile desert, is qualified by the term
desret=red. 54 The wild animals which Horus fought to create civilization
are qualified as desret=red, especially the hippopotamus.55 Similarly the
maleficent beings wiped out by Thoth are Des= [hieroglyphics] =desrtjw=thr
red ones; this term is the grammatical converse of Kmtjw and its
construction follows the same rule for the formation of ‘nisbes’.

Witness of the Bible

The Bible tells us. ‘ . . .the sons of Ham [were] Cush, and Mizraim [i.e.
Egypt], and Phut, and Canaan. And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and
Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtechah.56

Generally speaking all Semitic tradition (Jewish and Arab) classes ancient
Egypt with the countries of the blacks.

The importance of these depositions cannot be ignored, for these are
peoples (the Jews) which lived side by side with the ancient Egyptians and
sometimes in symbiosis with them and have nothing to gain by presenting a
false ethnic picture of them. Nor is the notion of an erroneous
interpretation of the facts any more tenable.57

Cultural Data

Among the innumerable identical cultural traits recorded in Egypt and in
present-day black Africa, it is proposed to refer only to circumcision and
totemism.

According to the extract from Herodotus quoted earlier, circumcision is of
African origin. Archaeology has confirmed the judgment of the Father of
History for Elliott-Smith was able to determine from the examination of
well-preserved mummies that circumcision was the rule among the Egyptians
as long ago as the protohistoric era,58 i.e. earlier than -4000.

Egyptian totemism retained its vitality down to the Roman period59 and
Plutarch also mentions it. The researches of Amelineau6,60 Loret, Moret
and Adolphe Reinach have clearly demonstrated the existence of an Egyptian
totemic system, in refutation of the champions of the zoolatric thesis.

If we reduce the notion of the totem to that
of a fetish, usually representing an animal
of a species with which the tribe believes
it has special ties formally renewed at
fixed intervals, and which is carried into
battle like a standard; if we accept this
minimal but adequate definition of a totem,
it can be said that there was no country
where totemism had a more brilliant reign
than in Egypt and certainly nowhere where
it could be better studied.61

Linguistic Affinity

Walaf,62 a Senegalese language spoken in the extreme west of Africa on the
Atlantic Ocean, is perhaps as close to ancient Egyptian as Coptic. An
exhaustive study of this question has recently been carried out.63 In this
chapter enough is presented to show that the kinship between ancient
Egyptian and the languages of Africa is not hypothetical but a
demonstrable fact which it is impossible for modern scholarship to thrust
aside.

As we shall see, the kinship is genealogical in nature.

Egyptian and Walaf Demonstratives

There are the following phonetic correspondents between Egyptian and Walaf
demonstratives;

[This section was omitted because of the difficulty of reproducing the
symbols on the Internet]

These phonetic correspondences are not ascriable either to elementary
affinity or to the general laws of the human mind for they are regular
correspondences on outstanding points extending through an entire system,
that of the demonstratives in the two languages and that of the verbal
languages. It is through the application of such laws that it was possible
to demonstrate the existence of the Indo-European linguistic family.

The comparison could be carried to show that the majority of the phonemes
remain unchanged between the two languages. The few changes which are of
great interest are the following:

[This section was omitted because of the difficulty of reproducing the
symbols on the Internet]

It is still early to talk with precision of the vocalic accompaniment of
the Egyptian phonemes. But the way is open for the rediscovery of the
vocalics of ancient Egyptian from comparative studies with the languages
of Africa.

Conclusion

The structure of African royalty, with the king put to death, either
really or symbolically, after a reign which varied in length but was in
the region of eight years, recalls the ceremony of the Pharaoh’s
regeneration through the Sed feast. Also reminiscent of Egypt are the
circumcision rites mentioned earlier and the totemism, cosmogonies,
architecture, musical instruments, etc., of Africa.71 Egyptian antiquity
is to African culture what Graceo-Roman antiquity is to Western culture.
The building up of a corpus of African humanities should be based on this
fact.

It will be understood how difficult it is to write such a chapter in a
work of this kind, where euphemism and compromise are the rule. In an
attempt to avoid sacrificing scientific truth, therefore, we made a point
of suggesting three preliminaries to the preparation of this volume, all
of which were agreed to at the plenary session held in 1971. 72 The first
two led to the holding of the Cairo Symposium from 28 January to 3
February 1974. 73 In this connection I should like to refer to certain
passages in the report of that symposium. Professor Vercoutter, who had
been commissioned by Unesco to write the introductory report, acknowledged
after a thorough discussion that the conventional idea that the Egyptian
population was equally divided between blacks, whites and half-castes
could not be upheld.. ‘Professor Vercoutter agreed that no attempt should
be made to estimate percentages, which meant nothing, as it was impossible
to establish them without reliable statistical data’. On the subject of
Egyptian culture: ‘Professor Vercoutter remarked that, in his view, Egypt
was African in its way of writing, in its cullture and in its way of
thinking’.

Professor Lecant, for his part, ‘recognized the same African character in
the Egyptian temperament and way of thinking’.

In regard to linguistics, it is stated in the report that ‘this item, in
contrast to those previously discussed, revealed a large measure of
agreement among the participants. The outline by Professor Diop and the
report by Professor Obenga were regarded as being very constructive’.

Similarly, the symposium rejected the idea that Pharaonic Egyptian was a
Semitic language. ‘Turning to wider issues, Professor Sauneron drew
attention to the interest of the method suggested by Professor Obenga
following Professor Diop. Egyptian remained a stable language for a period
of at least 4500 years. Egypt was situated at the point of convergence of
outside influences and it was to be expected that borrowing had been made
from foreign languages, but the Semitic roots numbered only a few hundred
as compared with a total of several thousand words. The Egyptian language
could not be isolated from its African context and its origin could not be
fully explained in terms of Semitic, it was thus quite normal to expect to
find related languages in Africa’.

The genetic, that is, non-accidental relationship between Egyptian and the
African languages was recognized: ‘Professor Sauneron noted that the
method which had been used was of considerable interest, since it could
not be purely fortuitous that there was a similarity between the third
person singular suffixed pronouns in Ancient Egyptian and in Wolof, he
hoped that an attempt would be made to reconstitute a palaeo-African
language, using present-day languages as a starting point’.

In the general conclusion to the report it was stated that: ‘Although the
preparatory working paper sent out by Unesco gave particulars of what was
desired, not all participants had prepared communications comparable with
the painstakingly researched contributions of Professors Cheikh Anta Diop
and Obenga. There was consequently a real lack of balance in the
discussions’.

A new page of African historiography was accordingly written in Cairo. The
symposium recommended that further studies be made on the concept of race.
Such studies have since been carried out, but they have not contributed
anything new to the historical discussion. They tell us that molecular
biology and genetics recognize the existence of populations alone, the
concept of race being no longer meaningful. Yet whenever there is any
question of the transmission of a hereditary taint, the concept of race in
the most classic sense of the term comes into its own again, for genetics
tells us that ‘sickle-cell anaemia occurs only in negroes’. The truth is
that all these ‘anthropologists’ have already in their own minds drawn the
conclusions deriving from the triumph of the monogenetic theory of mankind
without venturing to put them into explicit terms, for if mankind
originated in Africa, it was necessarily negroid becoming white through
mutation and adaptation at the end of the last glaciation in Europe in the
Upper Palaeolithic; and is not more understandable why the Grimaldian
negroids first occupied Europe for 10,000 years before Cro-Magnon Man-the
prototype of the white race-appeared (around -2,000).

The idealogical standpoint is also evident in apparently objective
studies. In history and in social relations, it is the phenotype, that is,
the individual or the people as that individual or people is perceived,
which is the dominant factor, as opposed to the genotype. For present-day
genetics, a Zulu with the ‘same’ genotype as Vorster is not impossible.
Does this mean that the history we are witnessing will put the two
phenotypes, that is, the two individuals, on the same footing in all their
national and social activities? Certainly not — the opposition will
remain not social but ethnic.

This study makes it necessary to rewrite world history from a more
scientific standpoint, taking into account the Negro-African component
which was for a long time preponderant. It means that it is now possible
to build up a corpus of Negro-African humanities resting on a sound
historical basis instead of being suspended in mid-air. Finally, if it is
true that only truth is revolutionary, it may be added that only
rapprochement brought about on a basis of truth can endure. The cause of
human progress is not well served by casting a veil over the fact.

The rediscovery of the true past of the African peoples should not be a
divisive factor but should contribute to uniting them, each and all,
binding them together from the north to the south of the continent so as
to enable them to carry out together a new historical mission for the
greater good of mankind; and that is in keeping with the ideal of Unesco.

has established its domination over the others by conquest. G. deLapounge
in an article published in 1897 postulated no less than a dozen
‘fundamental laws of anthropo-sociology’ of which the following are
typical; his ‘law of distribution of wealth’ posits that, in countries of
mixed European-Alpine populations, wealth is greater in inverse
proportions to the cephalic index; the ‘law of urban indices’ given
prominence by Ammon in connexion with his research on Badener conscripts
asserted that town dwellers exhibit greater dolichocephaly than the people
in the adjacent countryside; the ‘law of stratification’ was formulated in
the following terms: ‘the cephalic index decreases and the proportion of
dolichocephalics rises the higher the social class, in each locality’. In
his Selections sociales’ the same writer had no hesitation in asserting
that ‘the dominant class in the feudal epoch belongs almost exclusively to
the variety “Homo Europaeus” so that it is not pure chance which has kept
the poor at the foot of the social ladder but their congenital
inferiority’.

We thus see that German racism was inventing nothing new, when Alfred
Rosenberg asserted that the French Revolution must be deemed a revolt of
the brachycephalics of the Alpine stock against the dolichocephalics of
the Nordic race.’ (A. Cuvillier, p. 155)

visited Egypt, a black-skinned people, the Colchians, were still living in

The scholars of antiquity wondered about this people’s origins and

Herodotus, on the strength of commemorative stelae, erected by Sesostris

Still Evolving, Human Genes Tell New Story

By NICHOLAS WADE
March 7, 2006
<>

Providing the strongest evidence yet that humans are
still evolving, researchers have detected some 700
regions of the human genome where genes appear to have
been reshaped by natural selection, a principal force of
evolution, within the last 5,000 to 15,000 years.

The genes that show this evolutionary change include
some responsible for the senses of taste and smell,
digestion, bone structure, skin color and brain
function.

Many of these instances of selection may reflect the
pressures that came to bear as people abandoned their
hunting and gathering way of life for settlement and
agriculture, a transition well under way in Europe and
East Asia some 5,000 years ago.

Under natural selection, beneficial genes become more
common in a population as their owners have more
progeny.

Three populations were studied, Africans, East Asians
and Europeans. In each, a mostly different set of genes
had been favored by natural selection. The selected
genes, which affect skin color, hair texture and bone
structure, may underlie the present-day differences in
racial appearance.

The study of selected genes may help reconstruct many
crucial events in the human past. It may also help
physical anthropologists explain why people over the
world have such a variety of distinctive appearances,
even though their genes are on the whole similar, said
Dr. Spencer Wells, director of the Genographic Project
of the National Geographic Society.

The finding adds substantially to the evidence that
human evolution did not grind to a halt in the distant
past, as is tacitly assumed by many social scientists.
Even evolutionary psychologists, who interpret human
behavior in terms of what the brain evolved to do, hold
that the work of natural selection in shaping the human
mind was completed in the pre-agricultural past, more
than 10,000 years ago.

"There is ample evidence that selection has been a major
driving point in our evolution during the last 10,000
years, and there is no reason to suppose that it has
stopped," said Jonathan Pritchard, a population
geneticist at the University of Chicago who headed the
study.

Dr. Pritchard and his colleagues, Benjamin Voight,
Sridhar Kudaravalli and Xiaoquan Wen, report their
findings in today’s issue of PLOS-Biology.

Their data is based on DNA changes in three populations
gathered by the HapMap project, which built on the
decoding of the human genome in 2003. The data, though
collected to help identify variant genes that contribute
to disease, also give evidence of evolutionary change.

The fingerprints of natural selection in DNA are hard to
recognize. Just a handful of recently selected genes
have previously been identified, like those that confer
resistance to malaria or the ability to digest lactose
in adulthood, an adaptation common in Northern Europeans
whose ancestors thrived on cattle milk.

But the authors of the HapMap study released last
October found many other regions where selection seemed
to have occurred, as did an analysis published in
December by Robert K. Moysis of the University of
California, Irvine.

Dr. Pritchard’s scan of the human genome differs from
the previous two because he has developed a statistical
test to identify just genes that have started to spread
through populations in recent millennia and have not yet
become universal, as many advantageous genes eventually
do.

The selected genes he has detected fall into a handful
of functional categories, as might be expected if people
were adapting to specific changes in their environment.
Some are genes involved in digesting particular foods
like the lactose-digesting gene common in Europeans.
Some are genes that mediate taste and smell as well as
detoxify plant poisons, perhaps signaling a shift in
diet from wild foods to domesticated plants and animals.

Dr. Pritchard estimates that the average point at which
the selected genes started to become more common under
the pressure of natural selection is 10,800 years ago in
the African population and 6,600 years ago in the Asian
and European populations.

Dr. Richard G. Klein, a paleoanthropologist at Stanford,
said that it was hard to correlate the specific gene
changes in the three populations with events in the
archaeological record, but that the timing and nature of
the changes in the East Asians and Europeans seemed
compatible with the shift to agriculture. Rice farming
became widespread in China 6,000 to 7,000 years ago, and
agriculture reached Europe from the Near East around the
same time.

Skeletons similar in form to modern Chinese are hard to
find before that period, Dr. Klein said, and there are
few European skeletons older than 10,000 years that look
like modern Europeans.

That suggests that a change in bone structure occurred
in the two populations, perhaps in connection with the
shift to agriculture. Dr. Pritchard’s team found that
several genes associated with embryonic development of
the bones had been under selection in East Asians and
Europeans, and these could be another sign of the
forager-to-farmer transition, Dr. Klein said.

Dr. Wells, of the National Geographic Society, said Dr.
Pritchard’s results were fascinating and would help
anthropologists explain the immense diversity of human
populations even though their genes are generally
similar. The relative handful of selected genes that Dr.
Pritchard’s study has pinpointed may hold the answer, he
said, adding, "Each gene has a story of some pressure we
adapted to."

Dr. Wells is gathering DNA from across the globe to map
in finer detail the genetic variation brought to light
by the HapMap project.

Dr. Pritchard’s list of selected genes also includes
five that affect skin color. The selected versions of
the genes occur solely in Europeans and are presumably
responsible for pale skin. Anthropologists have
generally assumed that the first modern humans to arrive
in Europe some 45,000 years ago had the dark skin of
their African origins, but soon acquired the paler skin
needed to admit sunlight for vitamin D synthesis.

The finding of five skin genes selected 6,600 years ago
could imply that Europeans acquired their pale skin much
more recently. Or, the selected genes may have been a
reinforcement of a process established earlier, Dr.
Pritchard said.

The five genes show no sign of selective pressure in
East Asians.

Because Chinese and Japanese are also pale, Dr.
Pritchard said, evolution must have accomplished the
same goal in those populations by working through
different genes or by changing the same genes – but many
thousands of years before, so that the signal of
selection is no longer visible to the new test.

Dr. Pritchard also detected selection at work in brain
genes, including a group known as microcephaly genes
because, when disrupted, they cause people to be born
with unusually small brains.

Dr. Bruce Lahn, also of the University of Chicago,
theorizes that successive changes in the microcephaly
genes may have enabled the brain to enlarge in primate
evolution, a process that may have continued in the
recent human past.

Last September, Dr. Lahn reported that one microcephaly
gene had recently changed in Europeans and another in
Europeans and Asians. He predicted that other brain
genes would be found to have changed in other
populations.

Dr. Pritchard’s test did not detect a signal of
selection in Dr. Lahn’s two genes, but that may just
reflect limitations of the test, he and Dr. Lahn said.
Dr. Pritchard found one microcephaly gene that had been
selected for in Africans and another in Europeans and
East Asians. Another brain gene, SNTG1, was under heavy
selection in all three populations.

"It seems like a really interesting gene, given our
results, but there doesn’t seem to be that much known
about exactly what it’s doing to the brain," Dr.
Pritchard said.

Dr. Wells said that it was not surprising the brain had
continued to evolve along with other types of genes, but
that nothing could be inferred about the nature of the
selective pressure until the function of the selected
genes was understood.

The four populations analyzed in the HapMap project are
the Yoruba of Nigeria, Han Chinese from Beijing,
Japanese from Tokyo and a French collection of Utah
families of European descent. The populations are
assumed to be typical of sub-Saharan Africa, East Asia
and Europe, but the representation, though presumably
good enough for medical studies, may not be exact.

Dr. Pritchard’s test for selection rests on the fact
that an advantageous mutation is inherited along with
its gene and a large block of DNA in which the gene
sits. If the improved gene spreads quickly, the DNA
region that includes it will become less diverse across
a population because so many people now carry the same
sequence of DNA units at that location.

Dr. Pritchard’s test measures the difference in DNA
diversity between those who carry a new gene and those
who do not, and a significantly lesser diversity is
taken as a sign of selection. The difference disappears
when the improved gene has swept through the entire
population, as eventually happens, so the test picks up
only new gene variants on their way to becoming
universal.

The selected genes turned out to be quite different from
one racial group to another. Dr. Pritchard’s test
identified 206 regions of the genome that are under
selection in the Yorubans, 185 regions in East Asians
and 188 in Europeans. The few overlaps between races
concern genes that could have been spread by migration
or else be instances of independent evolution, Dr.
Pritchard said.

Top Ten Reasons Never To Consume Soft Drinks!

1. Soft drinks steal water from the body. They work
very much like a diuretic which takes away more water
than it provides to the body. Just to process the high
levels of sugar in soft drinks steals a considerable
amount of water from the body. To replace the water
stolen by soft drinks, you need to drink 8-12 glasses
of water for every one glass of soft drinks that you
consume!

2. Soft Drinks never quench your thirst, certainly not
your body’s need for water. Constantly denying your
body an adequate amount can lead to Chronic Cellular
Dehydration, a condition that weakens your body at the
cellular level. This, in turn, can lead to a weakened
immune system and a plethora of diseases.

3. The elevated levels of phosphates in soft drinks
leach vital minerals from your body. Soft Drinks are
made with purified water that also leach vital
minerals from your body. A severe lack of minerals can
lead to Heart Disease (lack of magnesium),
Osteoporosis (lack of calcium) and many other
diseases. Most vitamins can not perform their function
in the body without the presence of minerals.

4. Soft Drinks can remove rust from a car bumper or
other metal surfaces. Imagine what it’s doing to your
digestive tract as well as the rest of your body.

5. The high amounts of sugar in Soft Drinks causes
your pancreas to produce an abundance of insulin,
which leads to a "sugar crash". Chronic elevation and
depletion of sugar and insulin can lead to diabetes
and other imbalance related diseases. This is
particularly disruptive to growing children which can
lead to life-long health problems.

6. Soft Drinks severely interfere with digestion.
Caffeine and high amounts of sugar virtually shut down
the digestive process. That means your body is
essentially taking in NO nutrients from the food you
may have just eaten, even that eaten hours earlier.
Consumed with french-fries which can take WEEKS to
digest, there is arguably nothing worse a person can
put in their body.

7. Diet soft drinks contain Aspartame, which has been
linked to depression, insomnia, neurological disease
and a plethora of other illness. The FDA has received
more than 10,000 consumer complaints about Aspartame,
that’s 80% of all complaints about food additives.

8. Soft Drinks are EXTREMELY acidic, so much so that
they can eat through the liner of an aluminum can and
leach aluminum from the can if it sits on the shelf
too long. Alzheimer patients who have been autopsied
ALL have high levels of aluminum in their brains.
Heavy metals in the body can lead to many neurological
and other diseases.

9. Soft Drinks are EXTREMELY acidic: The human body
naturally exists at a pH of about 7.0. Soft Drinks
have a pH of about 2.5, which means you are putting
something into your body that is hundred of thousands
of times more acidic that your body is! Diseases
flourish in an acidic environment. Soft Drinks and
other acidic food deposit acid waste in the body which
accumulates over time in the joints and around the
organs. For example, the Body pH of cancer or
arthritis patients are always low. The sicker the
person, the lower the Body pH.

10. Soft Drinks are the WORSE THING you can possibly
put in your body. Don’t even think of taking a sip of
a Soft Drink when you are sick with a cold, flu or
something worse. It will only make it that much harder
for your body to fight the illness.

Preval Calls for Regional Unity

Havana

Haitian President-elect Rene Preval, on an
official visit to Cuba, said the future of his
nation is strongly connected with its integration
into Latin America and the Caribbean.

In his statements to press on Thursday, Rene Preval
recalled cooperation with Cuba dates back to his first
mandate between 1996 and 2001, when Haiti entered the
Caribbean Community.

"If we do not unite with the region, we will face
serious problems to develop, so we will do everything
we can to politically, economically and culturally
integrate with the region," said Preval, who won the
presidential elections, held on February 7.

Accompanied by Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister Felipe
Perez Roque, the Haitian president-elect honored Cuban
National Hero Jose Marti on Wednesday by laying a
wreath on his monument in Havana.

He is in Cuba on an official invitation from President
Fidel Castro, who is slated to meet with him. His
delegation includes 60 youth who will study medicine in
Cuba, and 535 patients in the Operation Miracle
program, which freely treats regional low-income people
with eye afflictions.

The Haitian guests will meet with local officials and
tour sites of scientific and social interests.

Super

Super-Earth: Astronomers Find a Watery New Planet

Back in the mid-1990s, when astronomers were just beginning to find new
planets around distant stars, nearly every new discovery got front-page
headlines. Today, with the extrasolar-planet count up to about 400, it takes
something extraordinary to make news.

See
the best pictures of 2009.

But extraordinary may be too understated a descriptor for the
discovery reported on Wednesday in the journal Nature: an international
team led by Harvard astronomer David Charbonneau has spotted a
"super-Earth," a planet 2.7 times bigger than Earth, circling a dim
red star called GJ 1214, just 40 light-years away in the constellation Ophiuchus.
"It’s spectacular," says Geoffrey Marcy of the University of
California, Berkeley, who is the world’s most prolific planet hunter and is
credited with discovering 70 of the first 100 exoplanets. "It’s a
top-of-the-top discovery in the quest for Earth-size planets." (See
the top 50 space moments since Sputnik.)

While the new planet, dubbed GJ 1214b, is too big to be considered
Earth-like, it comes pretty close. But GJ 1214b’s relatively compact size —
smaller than the vast majority of planets identified so far — is only one
reason for astronomers’ enthusiasm. Another is GJ 1214b’s likelihood of bearing
the stuff of life: water.

If you’re looking for a world where life might thrive, a planet must be at
the right temperature for water to exist in liquid form. So it needs to orbit
its star in the so-called habitable zone, a "Goldilocks" location that
allows a planet to be neither too hot nor too cold. In that respect, GJ 1214b is
again a near miss. Its surface temperature hovers at a sweltering 190°C
(374°F), which is well above the boiling point of water, at least in Earth’s
atmospheric pressure. Fortunately, GJ 1214b’s atmosphere makes the pressure a
lot higher than on Earth — "crushing," as Charbonneau describes it
— and increases the odds of liquid water. (Under pressure, water can remain
liquid above 100°C, or 212°F.)

Astronomers were further able to estimate the planet’s makeup by calculating
its size, based on the amount of light that GJ 1214b blocked when it passed in
front of its star, as well as its mass (6.6 times Earth’s mass), based on the
wobble in the wavelength of starlight caused by GJ 1214b’s gravitational pull on
its star. That analysis revealed the new planet’s density: about one-third of
Earth’s. Because water has a much lower density than rock, astronomers figured
that the "most plausible scenario is a planet made mostly of water, with a
significant atmosphere," says Charbonneau. So despite its high temperature,
GJ 1214b’s high atmospheric pressure and relatively low density mean liquid
water could exist there after all.

Nevertheless, it’s too soon to suggest that astronomers have found the site
of potential exoplanetary life. "What you want [for life] is a nice toasty
ocean with a little bit of atmosphere. That’s not going to happen here,"
says Charbonneau. "I think it would be foolish to say categorically that [GJ
1214b] doesn’t have life. But we have no basis for thinking it could."

If it does, astronomers will be able to look for it in unprecedented detail.
Since GJ 1214b is only 40 light-years away, which is practically next door in
cosmic terms, its atmosphere can be studied more closely than that of any other
exoplanet, both with the Hubble Telescope and with the infrared-sensitive
Spitzer Space Telescope. Charbonneau’s team has already applied for observing
time on both scopes to do just that.

Perhaps the most exciting thing about the discovery of GJ 1214b is that the
planet was found at all. Planet hunters usually focus their attention on
Sun-like stars — that is, large and hot — on the assumption that if you’re
looking for life, you should look in a place that is as similar to our solar
system as possible. Charbonneau, however, focused on about 2,000 small, dim, red
stars known as M-dwarfs, nearby Earth. M-dwarfs are much more numerous than
Sun-like stars; of the 300 stars closest to Earth, says Charbonneau, 220 or so
are M-dwarfs. They’re also much cooler than Sun-like stars, so their habitable
zones are close-in. A planet in the Goldilocks position around an M-dwarf
doesn’t take a year to orbit, as Earth does; it takes only a few days (1.6 days,
in the case of GJ 1214b). So astronomers need to wait only a few days to spot a
planet passing by, and only a few weeks to confirm the orbit with several
passes. (See
pictures of different nations’ space programs.)

M-dwarfs are so small, moreover, that an Earth-size planet casts a relatively
big silhouette as it passes in front of it, making the telltale dimming of
starlight easy to spot. It’s so easy, in fact, that Charbonneau didn’t even need
a giant telescope to see it. Instead, he got away with the kind of scope a
serious backyard amateur might use. In other words, says Charbonneau, "we
did it on the cheap."

They also did it fast. "We thought it would take us two years to find
something like GJ 1214b," says Charbonneau. "It took just six months.
Either we got really lucky, or these planets are common." If they are, then
it wouldn’t be surprising for astronomers to find planets that are slightly
smaller and slightly cooler — in short, more Earth-like — as well.

Charbonneau’s group isn’t the only one looking. An international consortium
of observatories just announced the discovery of several other super-Earths
around Sun-like stars, though these new planets are far too hot to sustain life
and too far away to be able to study. Separately, NASA’s Kepler Mission will
present the first results of its planet search at the American Astronomical
Society meeting in Washington in January. "[The Kepler team] has already
submitted 28 scientific papers based on 43 days of data or less," says MIT
planet theorist Sara Seager. "It’s going to be a big year for
planets."
